Some of you might not be familiar with the Honor brand. But if you’re a tech enthusiast, you might have heard of this company as a sub-brand of Huawei. We’re sure you’ve heard of the latter more. But the company is striking out on its own and hoping to play in the big leagues. Its flagship device, the Honor 10, even takes on its mother company and gives it a run for its money.
The new device comes with a lot of the Huawei P20’s specs without the Leica branding. It’s powered by a HiSilicon Kirin 970 octa-core processor, 4GB of RAM, 128GB internal storage, Android 8.1 Oreo with EMUI 8.0, and 3,400mAh fast-charging battery.

It comes with a dual rear camera setup with a 16-megapixel f/1.8 RGB and 24-megapixel f/1.8 monochrome lenses and a 24-megapixel f/2.0 front shooter. Honor is emphasizing the artificial intelligence capabilities of the two rear cameras as it takes advantage of the NPU processor of the phone. Similar to the P20s, it can recognize over 500 scenarios in 22 categories in real-time. With Semantic Image Segmentation technology, it can pinpoint outlines of different subjects in a photo to make sure the images come out looking great. As for the front shooter, it has 3D face recognition that can detect over a hundred facial points to pixel-level accuracy. It also has studio lighting effects, similar to what Apple and even Huawei does.

One other special feature of the phone is something you can easily see. It’s the eye-catching “northern lights-inspired” design. Honor worked with the Paris Aesthetics Center to develop the design. It comes with a 3D glass back with nano-scale optical coating that has 15 layers of shimmering color. Honor is bringing the Phantom Blue and Midnight Black options in the country but the one you should be paying attention to is the former. When light hits the reflective glass rear, it shows a shifting blue to purple color that is sure to turn heads. If you’ve seen the Twilight model of the P20 series, you have an idea what this looks like. Photos doesn’t do this design choice justice. It’s something you need to see in person to appreciate and people will be appreciating this when they see it in person.
