Fresh from setting a world record in the deserts of Egypt last September, the Geely Monjaro EM-i finally made its way to the Philippines. It’s the first model in Geely’s local lineup to feature its e-AWD drivetrain, offering 335 horsepower and up to 130 kilometers of all-electric driving range. And with a price of PHP 1,868,000, it’s bringing quite a lot to the table.

At first glance, the Monjaro looks like a more sophisticated take on the Okavango. They share a similar silhouette, but Geely has given the Monjaro a stronger personality through a larger, more imposing grille, sleeker headlights, modern taillights, and bolder wheels. A larger panoramic sunroof completes the look. It’s a good example of how a few design changes can make a familiar shape feel more premium.
Other exterior features include automatic LED headlights, rear privacy glass, rain-sensing wipers, and a powered tailgate.

The Monjaro measures 4,800mm long, 1,895mm wide, and 1,700mm tall, with a 2,845mm wheelbase and 189mm of ground clearance. It’s not particularly tall, but there’s enough clearance for the usual road humps and uneven pavement. Despite its generous dimensions, the Monjaro is strictly a five-seater, leaving more room for its occupants instead of squeezing in a third row.

The cabin is where Geely really steps up its game. There’s a mountain-range graphic across the passenger side of the dashboard, wood veneer accents, a crystal knob on the rotary dial, and diamond-patterned seats. Leather covers most of the contact points, while the minimalist center console keeps everything looking neat. It’s a refreshing departure from the more conventional interiors we’ve seen from the brand.

There’s also plenty of technology to match the upscale atmosphere. The Monjaro comes with an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory, heated and ventilated front seats with massage functions, 256-color ambient lighting, and dual-zone climate control. For entertainment and convenience, there’s a 15.4-inch touchscreen, a 25.6-inch head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 16-speaker FLYME Sound System, and 15W wireless charging. It’s the kind of equipment list that should make long drives feel a lot more relaxing.

But the Monjaro isn’t all about looking good and keeping its occupants comfortable. Under the hood is a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine working with an electric motor to produce a combined 335 horsepower and 667 Nm of torque. Power goes to all four wheels through Geely’s e-AWD system, while a 29.8 kWh battery provides up to 130 kilometers of electric-only driving. The combined driving range reaches 1,095 kilometers, making it suitable for both everyday commutes and long road trips. And if you’re in a hurry, Geely claims it can sprint from 0 to 100 kph in just 5.83 seconds.

Safety hasn’t been overlooked either. The Monjaro comes with an Advanced Driver Assistance System that includes Intelligent Cruise Control, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Change Assist, and a 540-degree camera system. It also has Brake Assist, Hill-Start Assist, Geely Traction Control, and front, side, and curtain airbags.
