It’s difficult to hide the excitement that comes with being recipients of the latest innovations. Exploring its wonders and discovering whether we love it or hate it. That’s what it felt like testing out the Aura Portrait Algorithm of the vivo V27e. What exactly does the fancy ring light, vivo is very proud of, contribute to the outcome of your shots? Find out in this review.
Design and build
The layout of the rear is very aesthetically pleasing. Replacing the traditional LED flash is a ring light figure — indeed a major glow up. Its size follows that of the three camera lenses. Everything just looks so cohesive.
As for the design, it’s easy to love the soft lavender hue, which showcases beautiful feather-like patterns as light hits the rear. One can easily appreciate its subtlety and elegance.
It doesn’t just put on a show, but also provides users a fantastic feel. We got ourselves a perfect combination: lightweight body (186g and 7.70mm) and a boxy frame with perfectly polished edges. These make the phone highly comfortable to grip even after long hours of use. On top of that, the matte finish offers heightened satisfaction with its smooth, velvety feel.
Display
Situated in front is the 6.62-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen. For a screen with 120Hz refresh rate, I’d say it’s only sufficiently snappy. Meanwhile, colors of the display were more commendable; streaming your favorite Netflix series will be an absolute delight with the colors being true-to-life.
Something worth noting is vivo’s punch-hole display. It’s less intrusive and more up to date. Further, you have an 85.9% screen-to-body ratio, and surprisingly bezels are not that bothersome.
Camera
The camera situation of the V27e follows the trendy single file for the lenses. We have the 64MP OIS Ultra-Sensing main camera, 2MP Bokeh Camera, and 2MP Super Macro Camera.
What significantly made the camera module more interesting is the ring light that vivo calls Aura light. The light it produces is supposed to emulate the soft lighting effect found in studios.
Flash photography is not without any challenges. Thus, if you have little to no experience, it’s great to be equipped with tools that can help you achieve nice results. You don’t want your subject looking washed out or flat, so this is where vivo’s Aura Portrait Algorithm comes in.
Upon testing, I saw how the light was evenly distributed throughout the entire photo. Portrait shots highlight the subject beautifully as well. This can be enticing for those who love taking the so-called “Gen Z” shots.
Amid locations with good lighting, it was effortless to take stunning photos. The amount of detail was impressive. Images had rich and vibrant colors. To my surprise, it performed better than I expected in low-light settings. Details weren’t severely compromised. However, it might be tougher as the lighting comes close to non-existent. Nonetheless, it’s a worthy companion for your next bar hopping in Poblacion with all the fancy lights and pretty aesthetics.
Shooting videos was a pleasant experience too. It was evident that the Hybrid Image Stabilization (OIS + EIS) was at play just by looking at how less wobbly the footage was. It’s not all the time we get to take our gimbal with us, so during those instances, this will become very handy.
Performance
Powering the device is the MediaTek G99 processor. It also runs on 8GB + 8GB Extended RAM (16GB Dynamic RAM). The fusion of the aforementioned allows you to execute tasks seamlessly. This experience goes beyond simple tasks and multitasking; it’s also highly capable of giving users a smooth gameplay. I was able to put it to the test while playing Mobile Legends, and I didn’t encounter any frame drops.
Since this device is supposed to cater to content creators and photography enthusiasts, sufficient storage is a requisite. Thankfully, we have enough of that in the V27e — a large 256GB ROM at your disposal.
Battery
The smartphone comes with a 66W FastCharger that can charge the device from 0 to 45% in just 19 minutes. Juicing it up fully will take you only 55 minutes, which saves you so much time if you’re always out and about. Since the battery life is still modest at 4600mAh, the fast charging technology is something you can take advantage of.
Verdict
It appears that the vivo V27e has boosted its appeal with its innovative camera features. Since I love taking portraits with friends at night, and the device gives me highly favorable results, it received some good points in my book. At the same time, a few aspects also received minor upgrades, making it an even more reliable all-around device.
Finally, with content creation at its peak, vivo sees this as a good opportunity to introduce innovations that will help facilitate our creative ventures. That said, playing around with the V27e’s camera features would be a good place to start for budding creators. The bonus is it comes with an affordable price tag — PHP16,999.
