YouTube brings live streaming to mobile

It feels like a feature that’s been a long time coming and now that it’s here we’re sure content creators or just people who’ve taken to live streaming will enjoy. Announced the other day at VidCon, YouTube is bringing its live streaming capabilities to mobile devices. This should effectively put them up against the likes of Facebook, Periscope, and Meerkat.

This isn’t YouTube’s first foray into live streaming. But it does give the platform’s big stars and just about anyone who wants to create live video content on their phones access to that feature.

YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki made the announcement following months of speculation that YouTube is taking on live streaming on mobile. And she anticipates what this will mean for creation on their platform.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing how everybody here uses these creative tools,” Wojcicki said during her VidCon keynote.

Once this rolls out to all users, what you’ll expect to see is a new red capture button in the corner of the app that’ll enable you to start streaming. You can either take a photo or select one from your gallery to act as the video’s thumbnail. Of course, there is a chat feature that appears almost in real time.

Some of the YouTube creators already have access to live streaming. If you want to check them out, these include Platica Polinesia, AIB, Alex Wassabi, The Young Turks, and SACCONEJOLY.
