In case you missed it, Spotify has begun showing full lyrics for the most popular songs in their collection.
The streaming giant worked with Musixmatch to provide lyrics that are synced to the music. However, unlike a videoke that crawls per word, this one highlights per line of the song. If you skip to a certain time within the song, it will also jump up to that particular time’s lyrics.
Unfortunately for K-pop fans, their songs are written in Hangul unless there’s an English word in them.
Previously, we only have a backstory for the lyrics provided by Genius since 2016. However, with the complications of lyrics, licensing, and the fact that Genius worked extensively with Apple in providing full lyrics, Spotify had to look somewhere else.
While popular songs get the first dibs for the feature, the Musixmatch partnership is worldwide so even local songs get their lyrics displayed if it becomes popular enough.
