Apple might have gone smaller with its new iPhone SE, but Xiaomi decides to go the other way and blows up its new device. The new Mi Max features a 6.4-inch display. But even though it has a gigantic screen, the Mi Max has a rather svelte form with a 7.5mm thickness and weighs 203 grams, which is 26 grams lighter than the 6.8-inch Lenovo Phab Plus.
This device runs on either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 or 652 processor, either 3GB or 4GB RAM, and comes with a sizable 4,850mAh battery (which Xiaomi promises can stream video for up to 14 hours via Wi-Fi). Storage options range from 32GB, to 64GB, to 128GB. It has a 16-megapixel rear shooter and a 5-megapixel front camera.
The Mi Max will be using the new Android-based MIUI 8, which has new features Xiaomi is boasting about. One of that is the ability to “split” the phone, meaning it can run two accounts at once. You can “clone” apps and have them run two separate accounts at the same time. Useful for social media sites that won’t let you log into multiple accounts on one app. Or if you want to separate your work and personal accounts.
This phablet will come in silver, gold, and dark gray. It’ll be on sale in China next week. We don’t have any word yet if China plans to sell this outside of its local market. But it does come at rather attractive price points. Prices start at 1,499 RMB (around P10,700) for the Snapdragon 650, 3GB RAM, and 32GB internal storage version; to 1,699 RMB (around P12,100) for the Snapdragon 652 with 64GB storage; and then to 1,999 RMB (around P14,300) for 4GB of RAM with 128GB internal storage.
