UNIQLO, the Japanese global apparel retailer, just announced that it will offer replica game wear and other items worn at the 2019 French Open by Global Brand Ambassador Roger Federer. Items will be available from May 27, 2019 (Monday) at UNIQLO MANILA, Global Flagship Store, Glorietta 5.
The new game wear models were developed by the design team at the UNIQLO Paris R&D Center, led by Artistic Director Christophe Lemaire, in consultation with the brand ambassador.
The Roger Federer model features details and colors inspired by tennis wear of the late 1970s to early 1980s. The refined color scheme is based on a beige tone that complements the clay court, accented with off-white and deep red. Functional elements include mesh shoulders and sides that enable high-performance on the court, created through a series of fitting sessions with the tennis legend.
Federer said, “I had frequent consultations with the development team, and I’m extremely pleased with the game wear they’ve created. It is exceptionally high quality, not only in terms of the silhouette and coloring, but it also has the functionality I need during play. This will be my first appearance at Roland Garros since 2015, and I’m looking forward to playing in UNIQLO game wear.”
Jointly developed by UNIQLO and Toray Industries, Dry EX features a special arched structure that dries faster than ordinary dry function material, preventing the steamy and sticky feeling due to perspiration and keeping a comfortable feel during play. The raised structure is well suited to the strenuous movements of tennis. Highly breathable mesh has been used in areas that accumulate sweat, helping to avoid overheating and allowing the athletes to be at their very best during competition.
