As with the last couple of Ubisoft E3 press conference, the show was hosted by fellow gamer, Aisha Tyler. This is also the year that Ubisoft is celebrating its 30th birthday.
Starting things off was a dance medley with a dance troupe featuring Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now.” This also introduced the first game, Just Dance 2017. It will be available on all major consoles including the Nintendo NX.
Ubisoft is the home of the Tom Clancy franchise. This year, they showed off a new trailer as well as gameplay footage of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands. Ubisoft also showed new trailers for the two upcoming paid expansions to Tom Clancy’s The Division called Underground and Survival.
The sequel to the well-received RPG South Park: The Stick of Truth also makes its appearance with an interview of the show’s creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker. This time, South Park: The Fractured But Whole takes on the superhero genre. In the trailer and demo shown at the event, the game is taking inspiration from both the MCU and the DC Extended Universe by liberally placing references from both. The game will be released on multiple platforms on December 6th.
Introduced last year, we get to see gameplay this time around for For Honor. You get to choose between a knight, a samurai, and a Viking with their own story in a Dynasty Warriors-like melee gameplay. For a game the features war and violence, For Honor will be released on Valentine’s Day 2017.
While the first Watchdogs garnered mixed reviews, Watchdogs 2 seems to up the game by giving it more dynamic with the introduction of parkour and other action elements.
Trials of the Blood Dragon brings the Excite Bike-esque of Trials with the ’80s flair of Far Cry: Blood Dragon.
The last game that they announced was the extreme sports game Steep. You’ve got your usual snowboarding, skiing, base jumping, and even wing suit flying. All these action sports combined with an open world setting and you’ve got Steep.
Not going to be left behind technologically, Ubisoft showed a number of VR games including one based on Star Trek. Eagle Flight is a multi-player game where players become eagles and combat each other similar to capture the flag. Star Trek: Bridge Crew puts players on the ship of the USS Aegis as they work together playing their roles in VR similar to the game Artemis.
In the midst of all these games, Ubisoft made time to show off the new Assassin’s Creed movie starring Michael Fassbender and even talk with Frank Marshal, the producer of the movie.
