The VIBE X2: the world’s first multi-layered smartphone

Remember, remember the 5th of November. For on that day, Lenovo announced its new flagship smartphone, the VIBE X2, packed with a flurry of revolutionary features. It’s being boasted as the first multi-layered smartphone and the first smartphone with the latest MediaTek MT6595 True Octa-core™ processor. We were present at this extraordinary phone’s launch. And we were properly impressed.

The octa-core era is just starting but we’re already astonished with what eight cores working together can accomplish. Unlocking the power of all eight cores, the MT6595 is a step up from Mediatek’s MT6592 octa-core processor with a 47% increase in CPU clock speed, which definitely puts it a leg-up from other octa-core processors. It also uses big.LITTLE technology, which ensures that the more powerful cores are relegated to the more power-intensive tasks.

To create the VIBE X2, Lenovo designed countless samples of each hue, offering the phone in several gradated colors. Utilizing robotic arms and clean rooms, three coats of paint were applied for each tone, totaling nine coatings per phone.

The 13-megapixel rear camera is armed with an auto-focus feature, a back-illuminated sensor and an LED flash. The 5-megapixel front camera offers new ways to take selfies. Rather than taking the selfie with the traditional button or click, all 5-megapixel selfies can be taken with a gesture, a smile, flashing a peace sign, saying cheese, or a blink. And all these can be stored in its provided 32GB storage.

The phone will also come with trademark Lenovo DOit Apps: SHAREit, SYNCit, SECUREit, and SNAPit. Users will be able to share files seamlessly, clone the data and settings from their old phone to the new VIBE X2, secure the phone against threats, and shoot perfect photos, as was described in the preceding paragraph.

Sold separately are new VIBE Xtensions, accessories that augment the phone’s features and act as a case. There are two announced VIBE Xtensions: the VIBE X2 Battery and the VIBE X2 JBL speaker. The Battery provides 75% more battery to last the phone from day to night. The JBL speaker is a partnership with the eponymous company to amplify music and movie audio. A stand also allows for hands-free use and a built-in mic for group conference calls. Lenovo has also partnered with Otterbox to provide exclusive cases to protect against any misfortune.

The phone will carry Android Kitkat but will be compatible for Lollipop once updates roll out mid-next year. Partnerships with telcos are also being discussed with an announcement hopefully rolling out by the end of November.

The Lenovo Vibe X2 will be available in white, gold, red and dark grey and will be available on the market by mid-November with an SRP of Php18,999. SRPs of the Xtensions are forthcoming.
