Diverse powertrains, including BEVs and FCEVs, to be deployed globally under the multi-pathway approach
Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) announced that it will globally deploy diverse powertrains, including battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), based on its multi-pathway approach to achieve a carbon-neutral society. On November 10, Toyota held the world premiere of the new Hilux, which includes a new BEV model, at a new vehicle announcement event held by Toyota Motor Asia (TMA) in Bangkok, Thailand. In Asia, Toyota plans to launch sequentially from 2026 onward. For Japan-bound models, where a diesel version is planned, the launch is scheduled for mid-2026.
Toward carbon neutrality
Toyota is committed to product- and region-centered management with the aim of making ever-better cars. In developing powertrain systems to achieve carbon neutrality, various types of mobility are being introduced as part of Toyota’s multi-pathway approach. This approach offers electrified vehicle options tailored to the energy circumstances and varied customer needs in each country and region worldwide.
With the new Hilux, Toyota will further accelerate the multi-pathway approach by developing an FCEV model in addition to the diesel and BEV models announced today. The FCEV model is scheduled to be introduced in Europe and Oceania starting in 2028.
The Hilux (BEV model) was announced in Thailand
- This model is equipped with a lithium-ion battery with a total electric power of 59.2 kWh. Cruising range of 300 km or more is achieved by increasing eAxle efficiency.
- The battery pack is installed under the floor, making full use of the frame width.
- High-output eAxles are used in the front and rear, providing maximum system output of 144 kW, and an advanced control system achieves excellent off-road performance.
