Bermaz Auto Philippines, the exclusive distributor of Mazda in the Philippines has unveiled the Mazda MX-5 IMAGINE-its very own ‘art car’ at the Mazda Premium Experience Display at the South Wing R1 of the Powerplant Mall in Makati City.
Serving as the focal point of Mazda’s mall display that runs until Sunday, July 31, it stands between the recently-launched CX-5 Turbo and CX-9 AWD Signature. The MX-5 IMAGINE is covered in a custom wrap designed by car enthusiast and MX-5 ambassador, Angie Mead King. King used the burst of contrasting colors to exude a sense of power, motion, and energy-attributes that aptly describe the world’s best-selling roadster.
Since the MX-5 IMAGINE is a race car, digital printing on car wrapping vinyl was used in order not to interfere with the MX-5’s aerodynamic properties and lightweight design. Second Skin Industries translated the 3D form into 2D for the printing process, and then painstakingly applied the wrap to the entire car.
The MX-5 IMAGINE and its eye-catching livery will be making numerous public appearances both on and off the racetrack, culminating at the 12-hour Bonifacio Cup Endurance Race in November. There, it will be raced by King as well as a roster of the most influential racers of this generation: Gaby Dela Merced, Tyson Sy, and Windy Imperial.
As an art canvas, the MX-5 is the ultimate expression of Mazda’s “Car as Art” design philosophy. Imbued with Kodo or Soul of Motion, Mazda designers aim to capture energy in motion, even when standing still. They also infuse it with the vitality of a living creature to give it a sense of warmth and excitement. In short, it is a design that is meant to inspire.
The MX-5 is characterized by a dignified minimalist presence, a fundamental elegance based on Japanese aesthetics. The principle at Mazda is beauty through subtraction, eliminating any unnecessary elements. The bodywork features subtle sori curves favored by the ancient Japanese artisans, and utsuroi surfaces that make light and shade come to life,
“The MX-5 is known for its award-winning design as evident by being the first and only Japanese car to win both the World Car of the Year and the World Car Design of the Year in the same year,” says Steven Tan, President of Bermaz Auto Philippines. “The creation of the Mazda MX-5 Imagine art car brings everything full circle. By serving as a canvas, it not only becomes a piece of beauty and sophistication, but of passion and emotion as well.”
