Mazda knows that its BT-50 pickup is one of the more handsome pickup trucks on the market. It veers away from the overtly macho aesthetic and employs one more amenable to a suit and tie. This is why the new 2025 Mazda BT-50 doubles down on that without sacrificing the performance this truck is known for.
Choosing your BT-50 is more simple this time as there’s only 2 variants to choose from. There’s the 4×2 ‘matic and the Pangolin is now standard as the top of the line 4×4 trim. They have the same 3-liter engine that makes 190 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque, both paired to a 6-speed automatic with manual mode.
BT-50 4×4 Pangolin
The top trim BT-50 is balancing toughness with classy appeal. It has a gloss black front grille with honeycomb design with a gloss black signature wing. The headlights have a new Daytime Running Light pattern, while the LED fog lights have a real air vent housing them. There’s also a faux skid plate under the bumper for additional style points.
Nothing highlights the subdued tough look of the BT-50 better than the fender flares. The usually bulky piece is contoured to continue the wheel wells, maintaining the truck’s demure shoulders. The underside has a matte finish while the upper portion which is connected to the main body panel is finished in gloss black with a reflector in between.
The 4×4 Pangolin also has exclusive accessories at the back. There’s a “Fashion” Bar at the bed with a Pangolin badge on both sides. It also has a manual rollover cover for the pickup bed.
Meanwhile, both the 4×4 and 4×2 already have bed liners at the bed. They also feature the lightest tailgate assist I’ve experienced so far. My pinky can lift the tailgate with ease without sacrificing sturdiness. Mazda also put some ridges on the tailgate’s design, giving it a bit of accent in what is usually a bland piece.
The cabin gets newly designed black leather seats, leather armrests with real trims, upper glove box with the same design as the tailgate, and dark aluminum accents on key areas. The 9-inch infotainment system is still here but now it’s joined by 2 knobs and touch buttons with Wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto.
The driver also gets a digital cluster flanked by analog gauges as well as 8-way Power Adjustable Seat.
It also now has Wireless Charger, 360-camera, custom deep dish floor mats with BT-50 logo, Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror, Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control, and USB-C charging ports.
Performance is also enhanced with the addition of Rough Terrain Mode, as well as improved safety. It now has Rear Autonomous Emergency Braking and Rear Cross Traffic Brake to go with the Rear Cross Traffic Alert. There’s also Pedal Misapplication Mitigation, Multi-Collision Brake, and Driver Attention Alert. This is on top of the 7 airbags, Adaptive Cruise Control, and other Advanced Driver Assist features.
BT-50 4×2
If the 4×4 had a lot of performance upgrades, the 4×2 trim received key aesthetic upgrades to make it stand out further from the pickup crowd. It has the same grille design as the Pangolin but here, it has a matte finish. It also got the air vent fog light housing at the bumper as well as the faux skid plate in silver finish.
The biggest distinction of the 4×2 over the 4×4 is the side profile. The lower trim has no additional fender flares, continuing the clean look of the BT-50. There’s also no fashion bar on the cargo bed. As for the rear, it has the same ridged design on the tailgate, tailgate assist, and bed liner. The rear camera was also upgraded to a 360-camera system.
Inside you’ll be treated to a more deluxe cabin. The seats are clad in Terracotta and black leather with Leganu Suede inserts. The steering wheel, front center armrest, and door armrests also have Terracotta matching stitching. There’s also an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen (with Wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto) that comes with dual knobs and touch buttons, accompanied by USB-C ports. It also has custom floor mats.
The new Mazda BT-50 will come in 6 colors namely Red Earth Metallic, Sailing Blue Metallic, Geode White Pearl, Ingot Silver Metallic, Concrete Gray Mica, and True Black Mica. It starts at PHP 1,550,000 for the 4×2 while the 4×4 Pangolin is at PHP 1,850,000.
