Acknowledging that the future of design is in the hands of the next generation of interior designers, a local furniture manufacturer has partnered with top Philippine design schools in launching a collegiate sofabed design competition.
“We want the students to explore and further develop their creativity and passion for design. Through this competition we are able to provide them a venue to broaden their experience and knowledge on furniture design and production,” shares IDr. Carla Mae Leonor, project head of the competition, CLC Marketing Ventures Corporation.
CLC Marketing Ventures Corporation is a manufacturer, importer, and distributor of a wide variety of quality furniture and is a pioneer in producing locally-manufactured sofabeds. Having been in the industry for 35 years, the company saw the need to play a bigger part in honing the skills and mentoring a new generation of furniture designers.
“We recognize the exceptional creativity and skills of young Filipino design students. To help them realize their potential, there’s a need to turn their design concepts to reality,” IDr. Leonor explains.
The CLCMV Collegiate Sofabed Design Competition 2017 provides an opportunity for aspiring furniture designers to see their concepts come alive. It is presented by CLCMV and Uratex with the help of SOFA, Ronac Lifestyle Center, Ishida, and Dynasty Upholstery and Furniture Corp. The contest is also supported by Experience Travel & Living, Gist.ph, Malaya Business Insights, 2nd Opinion, and Crossover 105.1.
Happening on April 26-28, 2017 at the Ronac Lifestyle Center in Magallanes, Makati, the competition showcases the ideas and craftsmanship of Marc Leo Dolotina of UP Diliman; Ivan Cedric Fabia of Mapua; Stanley Angsanto of Mapua; Geonelle Ann Ong of UST; Patricia Buendia of UST; and Jerinae Ching, Kristine O’Yek, Sarah Salvador, and Jennifer See of PSID.
“These young designers are proof of the bright future ahead of the interior design industry. They have not only shown a high level of skill and understanding but also a different level of passion that’s definitely key in crafting functional and stunning designs. While we serve as their mentors, we are also learning a lot from them,”.
The event also features interesting talks from known interior designers such as renowned interior designer Ivy Almario and Stanley Ruiz whose work has been published in nine international design books, over 20 exhibition catalogues, more than 60 newspapers and magazines, and over a hundred websites and relevant design blogs.
