The all-new Kia Sportage is sharp any way you look at it

Kia has unveiled the full design of their upcoming 5th-generation Sportage. The compact SUV ditches the current model’s soft corners in front and utilizes sharp design cues for a striking new look. The resulting design is a collaborative effort between Kia’s global design centers in Korea, Germany, US, and China.

Up front is a new design aesthetic with a wider grille that has a web-like mesh. It’s flanked by two boomerang DRLs that house the headlights at the corners. Above the grille is Kia’s signature tiger-nose which is elongated to blend with the new design. At the lower end of the fascia is a simpler approach with twin-assembly fog lights and silver accents.

The sides show off the Sportage’s muscularity with fender flares that are curved nicely especially for the rear wheels. There’s a standout character line in the middle for a striking look, complemented by the mouldings on the lower bout of the doors.

At the back, the core design is still somewhat similar to the outgoing model but Kia took it up to 11. The taillights now have a sharper LED shape with black outline and connecting line. There’s a new silver accent for the lower bumper that continues to the skid plate for a menacing look.

Inside is a two-tone interior with modern amenities and luxurious design cues. There’s a digital display for the driver that’s seamlessly combined with the central touchscreen. The air vents are shaped to resemble the DRL, but become a small slit for the front passenger.

In between the front occupants is a center console with high-gloss panels and soft-touch switches. It also has the transmission dial, controls for the touchscreen, and cupholders.

On the mechanical side, information is still scarce for the new Sportage since the announcement today is just for the design of the vehicle. It will be globally launched later this year.
