In case you find yourself opening up your Steam account today, you might accidentally be accessing someone else’s account.
In a horrific Christmas catastrophe, Valve’s gaming platform seemed to have hit a big security issue as some of its users were able to access other people’s accounts. From there, players were able to see things like email addresses, credit card information, as well as previous purchases.
Jason Schreier of Kotaku was even able to see an account that used Steam Guard, which is Valve’s tool to help prevent unauthorized account access. So, that obviously didn’t help.
While not all players were able to see this security glitch, it’s still disconcerting that you might have had someone see your personal info. And it had to happen during Steam’s annual winter sale. Talk about a major snafu.
The Steam store seems to be up and running already but Valve hasn’t made any official statements about the issue yet. And there isn’t any word about the safety of your accounts. That is kind of disconcerting if you ask us. We’re hoping to hear from them soon.
