There are bargains and then there are absolute steals. The latest offering from Starmobile falls under the latter category. The new Play Neo caters to a very specific market—the first-time smartphone user who wants to finally let go of their feature phone—but it can also appeal to data-hungry social media users. It’s an excellent deal for these markets though as it comes in the new “Super Pack” bundle.
What’s a Super Pack bundle? Well, the Play Neo will provide its users 700MB of data every 30 days for 12 months from Smart Prepaid. The catch? You just need to top up an accumulated P150 of load each month and then you’ll be automatically entitled to the free data. You will receive a text once the free data has been activated. And once you’ve used up 80 percent of your data, the network will notify you via text as well so you won’t be caught unawares that you’re using up your load already. Of course, you can still avail the different call, text, and data promos from Smart after you’ve used up your free data allocation. If you’re enrolled in a certain package, you’ll use up your free data first before you use up your package.
Super Pack bundles won’t be limited to Smart Prepaid, though. Starmobile plans to tie up with the other telcos for other offerings in the future. It might be for a new product like the Play Neo or one that’ll be bundled with an existing Starmobile device.
Speaking of the Play Neo, let’s talk hardware this time. Priced at P2,990, it’s the Filipino brand’s most affordable 5-inch device to date. This dual-SIM device runs on Android 4.4 KitKat, Spreadtrum 7731G 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 512MB RAM, and 8GB internal storage (which is expandable up to 32GB via microSD). As mentioned, it has a 5-inch display with 854 x 480 resolution. It also has a 5-megapixel rear camera with backside illumination and 2-megapixel front camera. The Play Neo packs in a 2,000mAh battery and Starmobile-exclusive features like Starmobile Care App, SYNC 2.0, and App Store.
