Starmobile outs Knight X flagship, UP Snap

Starmobile recently unveiled two of its latest offerings—the Knight X and Up Snap—for the masses. They’re introducing local industry firsts with both devices. The Knight X is the first locally-branded octa-core smartphone to carry MediaTek’s new MT6595m processor, while the UP Snap is the first locally-branded smartphone to use UltraPixel technology for its cameras.

The Knight X packs in 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, and a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display made with scratch-resistant glass. It is a dual-SIM, dual-LTE device (nano and micro SIM), which means you can switch over to whichever has better connection in the area you are in. It runs on Android 4.4 KitKat and has a 13-megapixel Sony Exmor RS IMX135 rear camera and 5-megapixel fixed focus front camera. You get a sizable 3,350 mAh battery.

The UP Snap is for smartphone photo enthusiasts. It features Ultrapixel camera technology in its 8-megapixel rear camera (yes, same technology used by HTC), which is designed to have light sensors with larger pixels to help absorb more light. In theory, it can take photos with less noise, better colors, and more details–even in low-light situations. It also has a 5-megapixel front camera and it runs on a 1.2 GHz Broadcomm BCM23550M processor, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB internal storage (expandable up to 32 GB via microSD), and Android 4.4 Kitkat. The UP Snap also has a 5-inch FWVGA IPS display with scratch-resistant glass, dual-SIM capabilities, and 2,900 mAh battery.
