Completing Sony’s product lineup from Mobile World Congress 2017 back in February, Sony Philippines is launching the Xperia XZ Premium and XA1 Ultra in the Philippines by the end of next month. Giving you time to save up for it, Sony hosted the media launch for the phones today.
The main star of the event is the flagship Xperia XZ Premium. Its biggest selling points center around its cameras. Its 19-megapixel 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS Motion Eye rear shooter is capable of taking 960fps video clips, giving you some pretty dramatic clips in the process (check out the Instagram video below!).
Sony has also integrated Predictive Capture feature into this device. This means when you have the camera app open and this feature enabled, it’ll start buffering images (four shots) when it detects motion in the frame. It’ll do this even before you click the shutter button.
The Xperia XZ Premium also comes with a 13-megapixel 1/3.06-inch Exmor RS front camera.
Staying true to its name, the Xperia XZ Premium packs in other flagship-worthy specs, including 5.5-inch 4K HDR Triluminos display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 64-bit processor, Adreno 540 GPU, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB UFS internal storage (which is expandable up to 256GB via microSD). While it’s a dual SIM device, the second SIM slot is a hybrid slot, which means it doubles as a microSD slot.
As expected, this flagship device packs in an Android 7.0 Nougat operating system and is water-resistant and dust-proof with an IP65/68 rating. You also get a 3230mAh battery in this phone. As a reward for those who want to pre-order the device, Sony is running a pre-order campaign from June 1st to June 18th. Those who avail the promotion at Sony Centres and Sony Mobile Stores nationwide will get a free Sony Wireless Bluetooth Speaker (SRS-XB20) worth P4,999. The phone will come in Deep Sea Black and Luminous Chrome at launch and will have its Bronze Pink version coming out at the end of July.
Mentioned but not yet priced, the Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra is coming out at the same time as the Xperia XZ Premium. The more selfie-centric handset has a 16-megapixel front camera with Optical Image Stabilizer and a 23-megapixel main shooter.
The almost bezel-less 6-inch screen is a truly eye-catching feature for this device. It runs on a MediaTek MT6757 Helio P20 processor, Mali-T880MP2, 4GB of RAM, and up to 64GB internal storage. Battery might be a bit worrying though for a large device as it only has a 2700mAh battery. But we can only really try out its capabilities during a proper test. We’re waiting to get loaner units from Sony.
As mentioned, Sony Philippines won’t divulge the price of the Xperia XA1 Ultra yet but they told us it’ll be coming in Rainbow White, Pink, Black, and Gold.
