Samsung just announced the latest iteration of their S20 phone in the new S20 FE or Fan Edition. It is Samsung’s response to the pandemic as it takes a toll in the economy of several countries and ultimately consumers, and aims to deliver a more attainable flagship experience. Key specs from the S20 line were retained but were made more affordable, with a starting price of $699 for the 5G version.
“The S20 FE is an extension of the Galaxy S20 family and is the start of a new way to bring meaningful innovation to even more people to let them do the things they love with the best of Galaxy,” said Dr. TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile Communications Business for Samsung Electronics.
Infront is a 6.5-inch FHD+ screen with Samsung’s signature Super AMOLED Infinity-O display that runs at 120hz for much smoother scrolling. On the upper part is a 32mp selfie camera, presumably the same one used in the A71.
At the back is where they cut major corners. The triple camera assembly is only 12-12-8 in megapixels but features the 30X Space Zoom. The main frame is still aluminum but the back panel has been replaced with plastic instead of the Gorilla Glass. It’s still capable of wireless charging though, and the pastel colors available are very great to the eyes.
Other features include 2.7Ghz Octa-core processor which is probably the Exynos and not the Snapdragon 865, 4,500mAh battery, Fast Wireless Charging 2.0, 6GB or 8GB of RAM depending on the market, expandable storage via microSDXC up to 1TB, IP68 water and dust resistance, and 5G connectivity, though Samsung may also opt for a cheaper 4G-only phone.
Availability, final specs, and final pricing are yet to be announced by Samsung Philippines.
