Well, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is finally here.
To be fair, when Samsung used “Unbox” as the Galaxy S8’s official launch title, we didn’t think much of it. What’s the fun in an unboxing if you already know what’s inside? Leaked specs and renders may have ruined all the surprise, but that didn’t stop Samsung from unveiling their next flagship with all the glitter and gold it deserves. We are eight iterations into Samsung’s flagship line but it’s still both new and amazing.
This time around, Samsung goes large with a 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch screen for the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, respectively. The Galaxy S8 practically obliterates the bezel with a rounded-corner screen and the exclusion of a home button. Its body layout remains still remains similar to Samsung’s standard setup except for the fingerprint sensor.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 series is built with the new Exynos 8895 octa-core processor. It comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. As for camera, the Galaxy S8 series still comes with the same hardware carried over from the Galaxy S7. It comes with two SIM trays that can support either dual SIM or nano-SIM/SD compatibility. The Galaxy S8 also sees the return of the iris scanner, a feature that suffered a setback with the explosive brouhaha of the Galaxy Note7.
The series’s biggest inclusion is arguably the Bixby voice assistant, which aims to take on Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant. It’s a smart assistant that can automatically interpret contexts and incomplete information. Bixby is Samsung’s first step to establishing its fully-integrated device ecology.
Finally, the S8 comes with a 3,000mAh battery while the S8 Plus comes with a 3,500mAh battery.
The Galaxy S8 will cost P39,990 while the Galaxy S8 Plus will cost P45,990. They will both be available starting April 21.
