Lenovo has just recently released a new and exciting ultra-thin laptop, the Yoga Slim 7, that offers great visual quality and very pleasing audio quality for quite the immersive and complete entertainment experience. The Slim 7 is another product along the Yoga S Series of Lenovo, joining fellow products Slim 9i, Slim 7i, Slim 7i Pro, Slim 7i Carbon and the S940. More than the entertainment factor that the Yoga Slim 7 has to offer, it further ticks more boxes that make it all the more attractive.
Design
Upon receiving and unboxing the Yoga Slim 7, the first thing that immediately caught my eye was its design and color. Its premium aluminum coating gives off a sleek and glossy touch, while its color is monotonous yet calming and refreshing. I was able to get my hands on the Alluring Orchid colorway which portrays both a velvety appearance and texture. The Yoga Slim 7 comes in other sophisticated colorways such as Slate Grey and Dark Moss. As someone who likes subtle yet appealing colors, I greatly appreciated that of the Yoga Slim 7, especially being paired with its sleek design that make it both a stylish and portable laptop.
This device has a standard layout with its camera centered above the screen. Its keyboard and trackpad on the lower panel have a standard feel to it but unlike that of some new laptops that I’ve come across recently, the Yoga Slim 7’s didn’t need any time or effort to get accustomed or used to, whatsoever. On either side of the keyboard, two very noticeable speakers are positioned along the edges. Its cover design is subtle as well with just the Lenovo and Yoga logos located on opposite corners.
On the left side of the laptop, there are 2 USB-C ports for quick charging and other purposes, an HDMI port and an auxiliary port. The right side, on the other hand, has 2 USB-A ports, an SD card reader and an oval-shaped power button. With this, the Yoga Slim 7 pretty much possesses all the necessary ports to support versatility and accessibility.
Under the Hood
Powered by the latest 10th Generation Intel Core processor, the Yoga Slim 7 is equipped with the necessary tools for a smart and intuitive performance that adapts to your needs. Partnered with this processor is the Intel Iris Plus for a smoother and more detailed experience for those streamers and/or those photo and video editors. For even more vivid visuals and graphics and to accelerate everyday apps for a smoother and faster performance, there is an option to add the latest NVIDIA discrete graphics as well.
Its 10th Generation Intel Core processor isn’t the latest compared to other brands and even fellow Yoga S Series products which, in fact, do possess an 11th Gen Intel Core processor. However, that is not to belittle nor discount the former as it is still a powerful and reliable processor nonetheless, especially for an entertainment-centered laptop like the Yoga Slim 7.
Battery
The battery that the Yoga Slim 7 has is very decent and serviceable, with up to 14 hours of battery life. I found its overall battery consumption to be standard; even with multiple windows and applications running simultaneously, I felt that its battery drainage was just right given the level of activity the device was put through. What I liked most about it in terms of its battery was that it was able to charge rather quickly at around an 80% capacity in more or less an hour’s time, impressively. Fortunately, for those instances where you might not be able to charge your laptop, the Yoga Slim 7 has an Intelligent Cooling mode that can give an extra 15-20% of capacity, ultimately extending its battery life.
One minor feature conducive to battery saving that comes with the intuitive processor is that the device detects when you step away from the laptop or remain idle and will consequently lock or close its screen while not in use. Upon returning, the Yoga Slim 7 can immediately detect you and its face recognition (which is both fast and reliable) will operate accordingly.
Audiovisuals
The greatest aspect of the Yoga Slim 7, personally, is its vivid and crisp audiovisual quality. The dyad of its 14-inch FHD display with 4k resolution and its front-facing Dolby Atmos Speaker System convert your laptop into a portable entertainment system. Its speakers are equipped with surround sound features that give off great quality, making watching TV shows, movies or playing games all the more enjoyable.
The only minor issue I have regarding this is that I would prefer for a slightly larger screen and slightly louder volume, 2 characteristics that I look for when watching videos or playing games. Other than that, its overall audiovisual quality can more than makeup for any shortcoming. Whether watching The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix or watching music videos of your favorite K-Pop group on YouTube, the Yoga Slim 7 can definitely offer quite the immersive entertainment experience. Personally, I was able to greatly enjoy watching multiple football matches and catching up on Breaking Bad as well.
Verdict
The Yoga Slim 7’s stylishness and portability reflect who would greatly appreciate what this laptop has to offer: those that are sophisticated and on-the-move. Add to that a processor that can support various activities and great audiovisual quality for a very immersive entertainment experience, this laptop can serve as your very own portable entertainment device and more.
