If you were big on the ’70s New York punk scene, you’ll be very familiar with the Levis 505. You could see this original zip fly on pop artists, rock stars, graffiti writers. It was an iconic pair of jeans.
The ripped jeans, which are so ubiquitous now, were pioneered by the Levi’s 505. If you’ve seen the front cover of Rolling Stones’s “Sticky Fingers” album, then you’ve seen this pair.
Now this “unofficial stage jean” is getting remade with the 505 C. The C here stands for customized as the designers at Levi’s have created a customized straight leg to match the perfect slim fit for today.
“The 505 was a symbol of counter-culture,” says Karyn Hillman, Levi’s brand chief product officer. “It rose to fame during an era of unrivaled creativity in art and music. We’re excited to introduce a modern and slimmer take on this classic. It’s equally and subversively sexy on both men and women.”
“There’s no better time to launch the 505 C,” Hillman adds. “We noticed people are buying the 505 vintage, particularly girls, because the vintage 505 has a zipper, creating a flatter front, and it does that amazing Levi’s inverted heart, perky bum thing that vintage Levi’s do, so we wanted to recreate some of that.”
