Aside from giving you palpitations and participating in motorsports, Red Bull is also known for making extreme stunts with their machinery in order to make a buzz for themselves. The latest of which included drifting in front of the Sofia Cathedral in Ukraine, a UNESCO Heritage Site, and things are messy to say the least.
Kyiv Mayor Kostiantyn Usov said in a Facebook post that Red Bull did the stunt early in the morning and without necessary precautions. Red Bull applied requested for a two-day shoot but this was rejected by the city council, with the request and rejection letter also included in the post. There’s also a video showing there’s no additional dividers protecting the public and the aftermath that left tire marks on the tiles of the historic plaza.
The cars were driven by pro drifters, one of them being Aleksandr Grinchuk who’s had his fair share of stunts with Red Bull before, as seen in his Instagram account.
According to Bykvu, a Ukrainian online news source, the stunt is for an ad featuring local rap artist Alyona Alyona. In her Instagram post after the shoot, Alyona said [via Google Translate] that Red Bull assured her there’s proper permissions to do the stunt. Alyona’s team tried to clean up afterwards but Usov said approximately 2,000 square meters of yellow bricks on the Sofiiska Square.
Alyona said the matter is now in court as Usov asked the police and officials to bring the offending party into justice.
