The European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) recently conferred on the Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation the 2022 Europa Award for Smart and Safer Mobility for creating innovative, sustainable smart solutions that help address the issues and challenges in the local transport industry.

“The support of ECCP to encourage collaboration among the private, public, and government institutions for energy transition has been vital to Pilipinas Shell’s advocacies,” Pilipinas Shell Vice President and General Manager for Mobility Randy Del Valle said during the recent virtual awarding ceremony. “With Pilipinas Shell’s purpose of powering progress, we continue to enhance smart and safer mobility in the country by transforming our sites into customer-centric hubs.”

The 2022 ECCP Europa Awards aims to recognize companies with exceptional performance and contributions in promoting sustainability in line with global standards and the Philippine Development Plan. One of the award jurors, Ambassador H. E. Some mobility stations such as Shell Plaridel in Bulacan are made of eco-bricks or up-cycled plastic waste made from Shell lubricant bottles.

A Shell mobility station for every journey

As an advocate of smart and safer mobility in the Philippines, Pilipinas Shell’s evolving offers address the growing demand for a more accessible, convenient, and transformative journey for its customers. It is also converting retail sites from being more than just gas stations, into one-stop mobility stations that put the needs of the customers first by expanding beyond fuels to provide complete customer offers.

Shell mobility stations are designed to be ideal locations for all types of motorists and non-motorists alike. Some stations can cater to those who use bicycles and electric vehicles.

Just recently, the company’s first high-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging service in the Philippines, and the first of its kind on Philippine expressways, called Shell Recharge was launched in Shell Mamplasan, enabling the site to cater to EVs beyond traditional vehicles.

In July 2022, the Pilipinas Shell launched Shell Recharge, its first high-powered electric vehicle charging station, at Shell SLEX Mamplasan. Shell Recharge features two 180kW chargers (CCS/Type 2) capable of simultaneously charging two electric vehicles to optimal battery charge levels in just 30 minutes.

Shell “Sites of the Future” offer a complete customer experience and cater to all forms of mobility. The first Shell “Site of the Future” located at Acienda Silang, Cavite has a dedicated stop-and-go rack where cyclists can park, sit, and dine al-fresco. Pilipinas Shell has embarked on this transition to promote active transportation as Filipinos increasingly embrace cycling as a viable form of transport that is beneficial both for one’s health and that of the environment. The other two Sites of the Future are Shell Mahogany in Tagaytay City and Shell North Gateway in Mandaue City, Cebu Province, the first in the Visayas region.

Pilipinas Shell’s best-in-class mobility stations welcome customers and highlight other convenience offers at a glance. Motorists, passengers, and pedestrians can purchase their basic necessities like food, toiletries, school supplies, and other essentials at Shell Select. They can relish quick bites, freshly-brewed coffee, cold-pressed juices, and other delicious options from the expansive assortment of affordable food products like Deli2Go’s sandwiches and pastries. There are also popular food brand partners present to satisfy food cravings.

At Shell Helix Oil Change+, vehicle owners can choose from a wide range of high-quality lubricants and other car-care products. They can have their regular oil change maintenance service in the comfort of an air-conditioned lounge with WIFI access.

As part of the company’s Integrated Retail Offer, most Shell mobility stations have top-notch restrooms and payment kiosks where customers can top up their e-wallets or settle their bills. Customers also have the option to pay for fuel and retail products, and services using digital payment solutions, while also being able to earn points and redeem exciting rewards through the Shell Go+ application.

The first “Site of the Future” in the Visayas region is located at Shell North Gateway in Mandaue City, Cebu Province. It features solar panels, eco-bricks, green walls, and rain-catchers that help reduce the mobility station’s total carbon footprint.

Shell Mobility stations were built with sustainability in mind to be energy efficient and lower carbon emissions. The perimeter walls of Shell mobility stations were built using eco-bricks or recycled lubricant bottles from the company’s existing lube bays which are more durable and cost-effective than traditional bricks.  The pavements of the station were built with Shell Bitumen FreshAir, which reduces emissions associated with asphalt, with the equivalent of reducing 40 cars worth of NO2 per kilometer of asphalt laid per year.  The stations’ built-in rainwater catchment system has technology that collects and stores rainwater to be recycled for watering plants and flushing toilets. Solar panels are also becoming a staple across the forecourt panels of Shell mobility stations with the 100th solar site recently launched this year.

These sustainable innovations incorporated in the mobility station’s infrastructure are proof points of the company’s decades-long pursuit of smarter solutions to the country’s energy needs. The ECCP award is the latest recognition of its longstanding commitment to and pioneering spirit in serving the Filipino nation. Del Valle said, “Pilipinas Shell has been in the Philippines for the last 108 years. Together, let’s continue to move forward in making the future.”
