Try Googling “find my phone.” You’ll be surprised that Google can actually find your phone. That is, if you’re on Android and if you have the Google app (which you most certainly should have if you’re on a vanilla Android phone). As long as the app’s still installed, your account is logged in, and it’s connected to the Internet, Google can find your phone or tablet anywhere you place (or misplace) it.
To activate it, log in to Google from any browser. Type “find my phone.” Hit Search. A Google Maps window pops up which will search for your phone anywhere in the world. After searching, the window will show you exactly where you left it. It’s not a spy (or is it?) so it won’t tell you that you left it in the pocket of your dirty pants. It will, however, give you an accuracy of a few meters radius. Mine was accurate to 17 meters. Which isn’t bad, because once you’re at that location, you can ring your phone from the browser. It will ring at full volume for five minutes until you press the power button on your phone. If it happens to be at a location you can’t retrieve it from, you also have the option to password lock the phone with a custom message to go with it, if someone happens to find it. Or you can simply erase the phone and reset it to factory settings.
