Ford just pulled the curtains off the new Ranger FX4 Max, the 14th variant in the current Ranger lineup that was just refreshed earlier this month. It’s catered for performance on the unpaved path just like the Ranger Raptor, but at a much lower price point.
It sports the now iconic F-O-R-D grille upfront, redesigned full-length tubular sports bar, body-mounted side steps with non-slip finish, and 17-inch alloy wheels with BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires. Underneath is a set of 2-inch FOX shock absorbers with tuned coil springs at the front and a remote reservoir and leaf springs at the back.
Inside are leather seats with carbon accents, Miko suede inserts and FX4 Max embroidery. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather with Black Alley inserts, while the driver’s feet are given sports pedals and all-weather floor mats.
Unique to the FX4 Max is the inclusion of an auxiliary switch pack that sits on top of the head unit. It allows owners to easily connect accessories and other equipment in an easy way. The FX4 Max has a separate 250A alternator to support this and reduce reliance on the pickup’s battery.
Under the hood is the same engine that’s on the top of the line models. The 2.0 Bi-Turbo diesel engine makes it way into the FX4 Max with the same output of 213PS and 500Nm of torque. It’s coupled to a 10-speed automatic and enables the pickup to have a 981kg payload and 3,500kg towing capacity.
Convenience and safety are also ensured in the FX4 Max. There’s Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Smart Keyless entry with Push Start, Ford SYNC 3, cruise control, electronic stability control, hill launch assist, hill descent control, dual airbags, rear parking sensors, and ISOFIX anchors.
Despite its signature toys, the Ford FX4 Max slots in under the 4×4 Wildtrak variant. It’s now available at Ford dealerships nationwide for P1,698,000.
