Orient Star introduces two M34 F8 Date models depicting the Perseid meteor shower

Orient Star has released two new M34 F8 Date models from the Contemporary Collection M34 featuring dial designs inspired by the Perseid meteor shower and a state-of-the-art high-performance movement mounted with a silicon escape wheel. One model is made using a world-first nanoparticle metal multilayering technology on a watch dial, a black dial limited to 160 pieces, while the other has a newly added, green-colored dial. The beautiful designs that express the vast depths of space enhance the appeal of Orient Star’s flagship model.

Contemporary Collection M34, inspired by the constellation Perseus with numerous meteors lighting up the night sky, offers the most diverse Orient Star line-up. The M34 F8 Date is a top-tier flagship model that showcases Orient Star’s in-house watchmaking using advanced technologies.

The M34 F8 Date features a traditional design comprising of three center hands of hour, minute and seconds, a date display at 3 o’clock, and Orient Star’s signature power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock. The new limited-edition black dial model depicts the Perseid meteor shower cascading across the night sky with nanoparticle metal multilayering technology. The gradation and smooth, thick, clear coating symbolize the vast depths of the universe. The nanoparticle metal multilayering technology is a new technique in which ink composed of nanometer-sized ultra-fine metal particles are layer injected several times onto the dial. This technology, which is used in electronics, is applied to watchmaking for the first time in the world, resulting in the creation of extremely delicate, elaborate dials with a sense of depth. In addition, the hairline and mirror finishing on the hands and indices, along with the diamond-cut frame of the date window adds a sharp contrast to the black background, enhancing the dynamic feel of the dial alongside the meteor design.

The regular model with a green dial features intricate stamped patterns inspired by the Perseid meteor shower as seen in the earlier blue dial model. Enhanced with optical multilayer film technology, the design allows the colours and patterns to shift beautifully depending on the viewing angle. This in-house developed optical multilayer technology creates color tone effects on the metal plate by layering nano level, near-transparent films that control the reflectance and transmittance of light. With this technology, it is possible to express the deep outer space, which would not be possible with normal painted dials.

These dials are crafted at the Dial Studio of the Shinshu Watch Studio located in Nagano, Japan. The Dial Studio performs processes such as surface finishing, application of indices, printing, plating, and crafting of hands. These high-precision techniques required for luxury watchmaking bring Orient Star’s distinctive dial designs to life.

Advanced technology is not limited to the dials but is also utilized in the latest movement. The automatic mechanical in-house caliber F8N64 is mounted with a silicon escape wheel, which has become one of Orient Star’s signature technologies. It also offers high accuracy of +15 seconds to –5 seconds per day and a power reserve of 60 hours with automatic winding. The movement, particularly the rotor’s chamfered Geneva stripes, glimmers beautifully through the see-through sapphire crystal case-back.

The advanced technology can also be seen in features such as the dual curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides of the glass (SAR coating), the powerful 40 mm diameter case inspired by the Greek hero Perseus, the elegant, comfortable metal bracelets made of high-quality stainless steel (SUS316L) and water resistance to 10 bar. The M34 F8 Date is not only unique in aesthetics and high in quality but also excels in practicality, making it an attractive everyday timepiece.
