New year, new gear – my PC gaming peripherals wishlist for 2024

A little under a full month has passed since the start of 2024, and I’ve come to the realization that I might be in need of a few peripheral upgrades to start the year. But then again, maybe I’m just blinded by the possibility of purchasing shiny new toys without it really being a necessity.

But either way, I wanted to share with all of you what is currently on my wishlist. The peripherals I will be discussing today are the monitor, mouse, keyboard and headset. That being said, let’s take a quick look at the entries for my most coveted peripherals.

Monitor: ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM (photo from rog.asus.com)

Current monitor: ASUS TUF Gaming 259QM

Some might argue that my current monitor is pretty good – 25 inches, 1080p, 240Hz (overclockable to 280Hz) and a 1ms response time. While the specs are impressive especially for FPS titles, I feel like the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM will provide me with an excellent gaming experience regardless of the titles I’m playing.

It’s a 27-inch, 1440p gaming monitor that features a 240Hz refresh rate and a 0.03ms response time. So clearly, I’m looking to upgrade my monitor in terms of the resolution. The OLED panel will also provide me with superior image quality especially since (spoiler alert) I use my PC for more than just gaming. In terms of entertainment, this monitor is a clear winner.

There’s just one problem with this monitor – it currently retails for around Php61,990. You can build a decent PC with that kind of money. But after all, this is a wishlist, so maybe I’ll just stick to wishing.

Keyboard: Logitech G PRO X TKL (Wireless) OR ASUS ROG Azoth (photos from logitechg.com & rog.asus.com)

Current Keyboard: Logitech G PRO X

While I don’t have any qualms with my current keyboard, I feel like wireless peripherals are the way to go for me moving forward.

The Logitech G PRO X TKL is essentially the wireless version of the keyboard I’m currently gaming. It’s on my wishlist since the build and form factor are quite similar. When it comes to keyboards, I do prefer 75%-TKL form factors since my desk is quite small. It does come with a few upgrades such as media control keys and a volume roller. The keyboard also comes with its own carrying case which is a nice touch to an already premium gaming keyboard.

The ASUS ROG Azoth, on the other hand, is what I’m more curious about. It comes with a 2-inch OLED display for you to view system information along with a built-in three-way knob for quick settings adjustment. It’s pretty impressive that ROG was able to fit a display on the keyboard given its compact form factor.

Both keyboards share some similarities as well. Both are hot-swappable, which means you can replace both the switches and the keycaps for that more personalized feel. These keyboards also have the option for bluetooth wireless, 2.4 GHz wireless and USB-C wired connection.

The two keyboards also aren’t cheap. The Logitech G PRO X TKL retails at around Php 11,495 while the ASUS ROG Azoth is at Php 12,995. However, the higher price point should be expected given that both keyboards are quite premium in their build and design.

Mouse: Logitech G PRO X Superlight 2 (photos from logitechg.com)

Current mouse: Glorious Model O Wireless

For context, my previous mouse was a Logitech G PRO Wireless. I absolutely loved the shape of the mouse and how it felt on my hand. Unfortunately, I had to replace it with the Glorious Model O Wireless since I was starting to experience double clicking. I have no problems with my current mouse, however the G PRO X Superlight 2 is on my wishlist since I’ve been looking to revert to that familiar shape.

The Logitech G PRO X Superlight 2 is equipped with the all new Hero 2 sensor. It is also built with the Lightforce Hybrid Switches, which combine the speed and reliability of optical switches with the feel and power efficiency of mechanical ones. Maybe these new switches will lessen the possibility of double clicks occurring.

When it comes to peripherals, Logitech is usually my go-to and it’s apparent given my entries on this list. Most of their popular products are premium gaming peripherals. That’s why it’s not much of a surprise that the Logitech G PRO X Superlight 2 retails for Php 8,995.

Headset: Razer Blackshark V2 Pro (photo from razer.com)

Current headset: HyperX Cloud Stinger Core Wireless

For my current headset, I obviously went for a more budget-friendly option. But overall, the HyperX Cloud Stinger Core Wireless did the job. Both the sound quality and the mic were pretty decent overall.

The Razer Blackshark V2 Pro, on the other hand, is clearly a pricier option. Its aesthetics is very reminiscent of that of a helicopter pilot. Based on reviews from last year, it appears to be one of the top gaming headsets of 2023. It’s comfortable, lightweight and has excellent sound quality. This is definitely a headset I’d love to try out this year.

In terms of the price, the Razer Blackshark V2 Pro retails for around Php 13,995. Although upon checking online, it seems to be on sale for around Php 10,995 (good news for me I guess).

Final thoughts

It’s time to save up for some new gaming gear. All of the entries on my wishlist are based on the countless reviews I’ve read and watched online. Of course, there is some bias in the sense that these are brands I gravitate towards. If you’re looking to upgrade, it’s important to always do your research and choose your peripherals based on your allotted budget.

I recognize that most of these products are on the more premium side. So who knows, maybe we’ll do another wishlist for the more affordable, budget-friendly and bang-for-buck peripherals out on the market. But until then, when in doubt, it will never hurt to study and learn more about gaming gear you want.

Most of these entries were products from 2023. I can’t help but look forward to what all these brands have in store for us this 2024. If there are any new releases that might blow us away, you can bet you’ll see them on another wishlist in the future.
