NBA 2K16 to max Steph Curry’s stats for 30 hours to celebrate MVP win

Fact is stranger than fiction. Which sounds more believable? An NBA athlete banking in half-court shot after half-court shot or an NBA athlete having a hard time hitting an uncontested three from the corner? Years ago, the latter speaks more to reality than the fantastic dreams of the earlier. Now, thanks to Golden State point guard and 2-time MVP Stephen Curry, ridiculous shots from all around the court aren’t so incredible.

His virtual counterpart isn’t so lucky, though. NBA 2K16 Steph Curry has been the subject of criticism, only because he can’t keep up with himself from real life. While the real him can chuck a ball from way downtown, the virtual Curry can’t even reliably land an undefended three even if his three point stats are maxed out at 99.

2K Sports, the game’s developers have flirted with several makeshift patches that might bring the game truer to life, at least with regards to the first-time unanimous MVP. Some ideas included bringing down everyone else’s stats (bad idea) and affixing a special badge to Curry that increased his three-point ability by a fifth.

To celebrate his back-to-back MVP nod, 2K Sports is maxing out all of Curry’s stats to 99 for 30 hours, beginning 3PM Pacific Time on Thursday, May 12. In our case, 6AM on Friday, May 13.

The temporary boost will bring Curry’s crazy plays to the virtual court, but for an all-around fix, 2K is hoping to develop a workable solution to Curry’s godly playing ability by the time NBA 2K17 rolls around later this year.
