Wear your Pinoy pride with the National G-Shock Watch

You can now wear your Pinoy pride on your wrist with this new National G-Shock Watch. Casio wanted to develop a watch that best portrays the Filipino spirit and nationalism, so they sought the help of designers from around the country through the “Design the National G-Shock” contest. And after fielding 1,200 entries, the winning watch came from 28-year-old art director Dylan Dylanco.
Dylanco got inspired by the traditional weaving technique we know as Habi. She drew inspiration from the enclaves of the northern Ifugaos to the southern tribes of the Moros, where the use of ethnic patterns is seen as a symbol of bravery. She used indigenous, symmetrical weaves in contrasting colors of black, red, and white and added elements of the Philippine flag (the three stars and the sun) to create her winning piece.

“That was a good idea for me kasi parang [because] you start with something so small and then you just put in patterns and you can create something bigger than that,” said Dylanco. “You can create a whole image from it. That was my idea.”
“The most prolific warriors in history have always been celebrated in symbolisms, song, and vestment. And in traditional tapestry weaves, every weave tells a story,” said Masaki Obu, sales manager of International Sales for Timepiece Overseas Marketing and Sales Division of Casio Computer Co. LTD. “The National G-Shock Watch is the embodiment of the Filipino as a tough people.”
And tough is in the backbone of the G-Shock Watch. It’s developed behind the science of the “Triple 10” concept—a watch with 10-meter free-fall endurance, 10-bar water resistance, 10-year battery life, and forged to withstand mechanical shock and vibration of sports, military, and high impact outdoor activities.
