MMPC volunteers collecting trash as part of the International Coastal Cleanup
Volunteers from Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) teamed up with local government officials, private companies, and institutions in Sta. Rosa City for this year’s International Coastal Cleanup, a global initiative addressing the impacts of waste and pollution on the environment, marine life, and human health.
Led by MMPC Vice President for Safety, Health & Environment Marfel Ancheta, the MMPC volunteers collected approximately 1.5 tons of trash along the Laguna Lake shoreline in Barangay Caingin, helping to ensure cleaner waterways and healthier ecosystems.
Spearheaded by the City Environment & Natural Resources Office of Sta. Rosa Laguna, the activity received strong support from Mayor Arlene Arcillas, Vice Mayor Arnold Arcillas and some members of the City Council, highlighting the collaboration between the private sector, government, and civil society in environmental conservation.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) notes that the Philippines began participating in the International Coastal Cleanup in 1994, with the event officially recognized nationwide through Presidential Proclamation 470 in 2003, observed every third Saturday of September.
Through this year’s cleanup, the local government and the private sector once again demonstrated their commitment to reducing marine debris and promoting environmental responsibility within the community.
