Mercedes-Benz unveils Plug-in Hybrid E Class sedan and GLC Class SUV

Mercedes-Benz Philippines unveiled last week at its EDSA Greenhills showroom two new electrified models in its lineup: the all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Plug-in Hybrid and the Mercedes-Benz GLC Plug-in Hybrid. 

Plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) are gaining popularity in the Philippines as more people seek more fuel-efficient and environmentally-friendly alternatives to traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) cars. PHEVs are a step above regular hybrids (HEVs), as they can be charged from an electrical outlet like pure EVs, giving them substantially longer driving range.

PHEVs usually have bigger batteries and more powerful motors, allowing them to drive on pure EV mode for a much farther distance, further extending their driving range. The bigger batteries and stronger motors of PHEVs also usually give them superior acceleration and response compared to HEVs and ICE cars. One of the key advantages of PHEVs is their potential to significantly lower environmental impact, especially when daily drives can be completed using battery power alone. Mercedes-Benz E 350e Plug-in Hybrid 

The all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Plug-in Hybrid brings back timeless elegance with the EXCLUSIVE exterior through its Mercedes star mounted on the bonnet. With its rich and renowned sense of tradition mated with cutting-edge technology, the new E 350e is designed for professionals and business leaders who demand sustainability without sacrificing luxury.

With its sculpted contours and confident stance, the E 350e maintains the iconic elegance of the E-Class while integrating advanced plug-in hybrid technology. The steering wheel is wrapped in supple and aromatic Nappa leather while the seats are upholstered with Nappa-look Artico man-made leather. The center console is in open-pore black ash wood. This midsize executive sedan is crafted to appeal to those who value both prestige and environmental responsibility.

Delivering performance and fuel efficiency is the hybrid powertrain with a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine developing 204hp and 320Nm of torque. It is mated to Mercedes’ 9-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission. Working in tandem with the electric motor, the E 350e PHEV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in an exhilarating 6.4 seconds.

At the heart of the spacious cabin (wheelbase is a lengthy 2961mm) is the impressive MBUX Superscreen, which features a 14.4-inch central touchscreen seamlessly integrated with a 12.3-inch display positioned in front of the passenger seat. Both displays are housed under a single glass surface, creating a sleek, futuristic look that enhances the cabin’s modern aesthetic. The E-Class PHEV offers onboard AC charging of up to 11 kW, ensuring quick and efficient recharging whether at home or in public charging stations. The vehicle is compatible with Type 2 AC sockets and comes equipped with a 5m charging cable for domestic outlets.

The E 350e PHEV is available in Polar White, Verde Silver, Nautic Blue, Obsidian Black,  and Graphite Grey.

As one of the brand’s well-loved SUV models, the GLC 350e PHEV now enters a new era of electrification. At the heart of its advanced hybrid system is a turbocharged engine, delivering a total output of 204 hp and 320Nm of torque. This intelligent plug-in hybrid setup offers an all-electric range of more than 100 kilometers, enabling drivers to experience the perfect mixture of making it ideal for drivers to navigate daily commutes and city drives emission-free, ideal for Metro Manila and nearby provinces. 

Drivers will truly enjoy the Transparent Bonnet feature, which provides a virtual view beneath the vehicle to enhance visibility when navigating steep ramps, rough roads, or narrow spaces.
