Despite the inclement weather, eight of the 25 new owners of the limited run MX-5 roadster made their way to Mazda Philippines’s warehouse and training facility. There, Steven Tan, President of Mazda Philippines, personally handed over the keys of their limited edition MX-5s. Car number 001 went to Eddie Salonga, the founding president of the MCP.

“It is truly heart-warming to see how the love of one car, the MX-5, has brought many people together,” says Steven Tan, President of Mazda Philippines. “It’s not just a testament to the timelessness of the MX-5’s qualities, but today, we also see the continued love and passion the Miata Club of the Philippines has shown. Truly, they have helped cement the MX-5 as a cultural icon.”

Shown at the 8th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS), the Mazda MX-5 MCP 25th Anniversary Edition celebrates Mazda’s special relationship with the MCP—the oldest single-made car club in the Philippines. Founded in 1997, MCP now has one hundred and fifty members.

Like all variants of the 2023 MX-5, the MX-5 MCP 25th Anniversary Edition is powered by a high-compression 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine producing 184 PS at 7,000 rpm and 205 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. This is paired with either a 6-speed Skyactiv-Drive MT or 6-speed Skyactiv-Drive AT gearbox.

In keeping with its ethos of providing unparalleled purity in handling and driver engagement, the MX-5 now provides Kinetic Posture Control (KPC) system which applies a very small amount of braking force to the inner/unloaded rear wheel during cornering. The resulting brake force pulls the body down, suppressing body roll to provide more reassuring cornering so subtly that the MX-5’s engaging handling remains unpolluted.

Despite its lightweight character, the 2023 MX-5 is equipped with comfort features such as black leather seats, an auto-dimming rear view mirror, a Mazda Connect infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 9-speaker Bose sound system. It also has Smart City Brake Support and Lane Departure Warning for additional safety.

Unique to the MX-5 MCP 25th Anniversary Edition is the exclusive Platinum Quartz Metallic exterior color and Navy Blue soft top combination. The same Navy Blue accents are found on the side mirrors and roll hoops. Satin Silver 17-inch alloy wheels complete the exterior transformation.

Inside, the MX-5 MCP 25th Anniversary Edition is packaged with a special Mazda Connect Commander knob and a Serial Number Plate, both finished in Sterling Silver. Each unit owner is given a commemorative car cover and the MCP 25th Anniversary Photobook.

Ensuring the collectability of the MX-5 MCP 25th Anniversary Edition, it will only be produced for a period of one year with final deliveries slated for September 15, 2023. All authorized Mazda dealerships nationwide are still taking in orders for this commemorative roadster.
