Maxine Peake’s ‘Hamlet’ screens in Manila

The British Council in the Philippines joins the global commemoration of Shakespeare’s 400th death anniversary with a one-day screening of Maxine Peake’s Hamlet on April 23rd at Shang Cineplex. The scheduled screening times are at 13.00 and 17.00.

The film, which stars UK’s most celebrated stage actress Maxine Peake, was originally produced for stage by the Manchester Royal Exchange and directed by Sarah Frankcom. The British Council supported the production of Sarah Frankcom’s Hamlet and was released in the UK cinemas on March 2015.

The Philippine screening is part of Shakespeare Lives, a global programme of the British Council for 2016 that celebrates The Bard’s body of work on the occasion of his 400th death anniversary. The film is also part of the British Council’s Shakespeare on Film Touring Collection, specially curated by the British Film Institute that consists of around 20 feature films that highlight the growth of British cinema. Admission is free.
