Nearly 1,000 students of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila recently joined a seminar on emergency preparedness and response organized by Smart Communications.
Smart brought to PLM its TNT Tropang Ready caravan, which featured lectures, games, and other interactive activities geared toward learning on disaster preparedness. During the event, the participants learned practical tips on what to do in cases of fire, typhoon, flood, or earthquakes, among other calamities, as well as basic first aid skills. The Tropang Ready program aims to empower the youth with preparedness and response skills that will enable them to mobilize members of their families and communities in times of calamities.
Part of the program is a training of trainers, where student-volunteers prepare to teach disaster preparedness and response skills to members of their school’s adopted communities.
Since 2016, the TNT Tropang Ready caravan has been to nearly 20 state universities and colleges all over the Philippines and conducted trainings on disaster preparedness and response to more than 30,000 students.
TNT Tropang Ready is part of Smart’s #SafePH program, which promotes preparedness through network resilience, continuous availability of communication services, and mobile solutions and activities that help communities mitigate disaster risks.
