Samsung recently made news during their developer conference this year as they introduced their foldable smartphone—set to be called Galaxy F (according to a report of the Yonhap News Agency. Featuring the Infinity Flex Display technology, the phone has a tablet-sized screen you can fold to fit into a pocket. The device includes a cover display that acts as a phone, and a main 7.3-inch tablet display.
Through its multi-active window, the device will be able to run up to three apps simultaneously. Supported by Google with Android, the alleged Galaxy F is set to launch next year.
According to reports, the “Galaxy F” will be an exclusive device that may be priced at US $1,770 (roughly around P93,000), although the final price is nowhere near actuality yet.
However, Samsung is not the first brand to unveil such technology as California-based start-up Royole has already done so way back in August, during this year’s IFA. Called the FlexPai, Through the device’s 7.8-inch AMOLED screen, split screens and multi-tasking are supported. The screen’s display size can also adapt to content you are viewing.
The FlexPai uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 series SoC. It also has 20-megapixel telephoto and 16-megapixel wide-angle lenses, stereo speakers, and a fingerprint sensor.
A developer model of the FlexPai is available now for €1,388 (roughly around P83,000) on the Royole site. The consumer model of the device is now available in the Chinese market now with order fulfillment from late December.
Meanwhile, other brands like Huawei, Lenovo, Xiaomi, and LG are also working on their own foldable devices.
