As Mazda unveiled the latest 2018-model year MX-5 sports roadster, the sports car’s host of dynamic improvements and upgraded safety appointments took centerstage. Such upgrades include more color options, mechanical improvements, additional safety features, and an additional powertrain selection.

Steven Tan, president and CEO of Bermax Auto Philippines—Mazda’s exclusive distributor in the country, says that all these latest features and offerings come together for enthusiasts to manifest and reinforce their love for cars.
“There has always been a strong demand for the MX-5 in the Philippines. By offering our customers not only an improved product, but also more trim options to choose from, we believe our fans will be able to find the ideal sports car that expresses their love and passion for driving.”

For starters, there is the limited edition Dark Cherry fabric canopy, an exclusive feature in the six-speed SKYACTIV automatic transmission variant of the 2018 MX-5 Soft Top line. Aside from that, the Soft Top MX-5 can now be availed in the signature Mazda Machine Gray color. Also worth mentioning is Mazda’s newest shade of red, Soul Red Crystal, that has now been made available in select variants.

The 2018 MX-5’s primary mechanical improvements also include a refined rear suspension tuning and the re-tuned power steering system in the Soft Top variant—upholding an even more agile handling and improved ride comfort for the lightweight roadster. These features and its classic sports car styling come together to emphasize the iconic status the MX-5.

Moreover, additional powertrain selection has been launched together with the MX-5. The six-speed manual SKYACTIV transmission is now an available option for the 2018 MX-5 Retractable Fastback. Those who are highly engaged with driving their vehicles are in for a treat with the manual gearbox-equipped MX-5 RF that is combined with a solid hard top. Speaking of the MX-5 RF, the Nappa Leather is still an option for the automatic transmission variant, while black leather is standard for the manual.

In terms of additional safety features, all 2018 MX-5 RF variants are now equipped with Adaptive LED Headlamps (ALH) that feature automatic control of headlight aim and intensity based on ever-changing driving conditions. The MX-5 Soft Top also has this. And like the ALH, Lane Departure Warning is now a standard feature 2018 MX-5 RF line as well as in the automatic Soft Top variant.

The 2018 MX-5 prices start at P1,880,000 for the manual Soft Top while the top of the range MX-5 RF with automatic transmission and Nappa Leather interiors come in at P2,300,000.
