Last year, Switch gamers who grew up playing the O.G. Nintendo games were treated to the launch of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. The special subscription allowed users to access a vast library of classic games, including titles from Game Boy, Game Boy Advance (GBA), and Nintendo 64.
Now, that library of classics is about to get even bigger, as Nintendo has just announced the addition of Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age. In case you aren’t familiar, these legendary titles were released for GBA in the early 2000s. The series went down as one of the best Game Boy releases of all time, and more proof of that is its arrival on Switch.
In these two Golden Sun games, you get to explore the world of Weyard in search of the elemental lighthouses. Along the way, your adepts — the main playable characters — can meet and capture powerful Djinn that will help them master the elements.
The games feature very deep battle and class systems that were quite intricate and elaborate for their time. Even with the classic 8-bit graphics, the games also boasted impressive animations that were some of the best we’d seen on Game Boy at the time. These along with the captivating storylines were perhaps what made the Golden Sun series as alluring as it was.
This isn’t a remake nor a remaster, though, so don’t get your hopes too high. Still, it would no doubt be fun to go on a trip down memory lane and play these two iconic games on Switch. And for those who haven’t played these games yet before, here’s a fair warning from someone who’s played through both multiple times: The worlds are quite extensive and not for the faint-hearted completionists. Especially the second one. Yes, most especially that second one.
