Lenovo launches gigantic 6.8-inch PHAB Plus, Suzy Bae as ambassador

How big is too big? Conversely, how small is too small? The sizes of slab phones, phablets, and tablets have been in contention since the smartphones have crossed the 5-inch boundary. How big does a device have to be for it to be considered a smartphone, a phablet, or a tablet? The delineation is a blurry one. Lenovo claims they’ve found the “sweet spot” between a phone and a tablet. Essentially, they’ve unveiled what they’ve discovered as the perfect phablet — the Lenovo PHAB Plus.

The tale of the tape measures this device at 6.8 inches. It’s bordering precariously close to the 7-inch boundary commonly set for tablets. I was able to hold this device in my hands during Lenovo’s launch. It truly was a giant, especially for my puny hands, but what Lenovo has done is optimize it on a software level for single-hand use. The phablet’s settings are compatible for both left- and right-hand users. Users can double tap the screen to turn it on and create a one-hand keyboard that snaps to their hand’s position.

The Lenovo PHAB Plus features a 6.8-inch full HD panel display with a crisp definition of 326ppi. In-Plane Switching (IPS) technology also guarantees an ultra-wide viewing angle, significantly enhancing screen legibility and color vibrancy for watching videos and viewing social media content. Plus, it features Dolby Atmos, first seen in the Lenovo A7000, to deliver moving audio for an amazing mobile entertainment experience.

Talking about performance, the PHAB Plus is equipped with a Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 Octa-core processor with 2GB of RAM. It’s a midrange chip, but one that gets the job done while keeping costs low.

For capturing images and video, the Lenovo PHAB Plus has 13 MP rear and 5 MP front cameras. The Panorama Selfie function and dual-LED flash help users take photos with more natural color and lifelike skin tones, while the Low Light settings enable bright pictures to be taken even in dimly lit environments. Corporate users will enjoy the Smart Tool, which enables a photo of a presentation slide to be taken from any angle, and then adjusted and aligned for best results.

The Lenovo PHAB Plus also has a 3,500mAh battery, lending up to 24 hours of talk time and 20 days of standby time, courtesy of a built-in platform that limits the internal temperature of the device.

Lenovo also announced Suzy Bae (“Suzy”) as the official Lenovo Southeast Asia Ambassador for the Lenovo PHAB line. Known as the “national sweetheart” of South Korea, Suzy became famous in the Philippines because of her roles in Koreanovelas and movies which gained impressive following locally.

Suzy embodies the youth, passion and zest  that appeal to the millennials, the target group which Lenovo seeks to reach out to with the Lenovo PHAB line, and specifically with the Lenovo PHAB Plus.

Says Suzy, “Lenovo is an exciting brand that is popular with the millennials, the generation I belong to.  I am truly honored to be associated with Lenovo, a brand known for its cutting-edge innovation that has been helping today’s millennials accomplish what matters to them. The Lenovo PHAB Plus is perfect for me to play games, review my videos and catch up on the news while passing time in between movie or television tapings. Moreover, it is both a phone and a tablet, so I don’t need to bring multiple devices with me when I travel.”
