JAECOO J7 SHS is now a Euro NCAP five-star rated hybrid SUV

The J7 SHS scored over 80% for its emergency braking, lane support, and speed assistance systems, among others

JAECOO Philippines’ first hybrid SUV, the J7 SHS, adds another notch to its belt with a global five-star safety rating from the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP). The Euro NCAP rating is the second recognition the J7 SHS scored this year after being officially range-verified by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) in February.

The Euro NCAP Assessment tested the J7 SHS’ safety technologies based on the following categories: adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, vulnerable road user (Pedestrian) protection, and safety assist systems.

The adult occupant protection test evaluated the J7 SHS’ safety mechanisms for fully-grown adults upon frontal, lateral, and rear impact. The model scored 81% in this category, with the assessors noting that the model remained stable in the frontal offset test and protected the knees and femurs of both the driver and passenger, regardless of size or position in the vehicle

Meanwhile, the J7 SHS scored 80% in the child occupant protection, vulnerable road user (Pedestrian) protection, and safety assist systems tests. Assessors praised the hybrid SUV’s safety assist system in particular, noting the autonomous emergency braking system’s excellent response to other vehicles, the lane support system’s adaptability when the car is moving beyond the lane, and the speed assistance system’s quick communication of the local speed limit to the driver.

The J7 SHS’ excellent Euro NCAP performance can be attributed to its road safety technologies, which fortify the vehicle for all emergencies. Drivers can easily assess the vehicle’s current safety status and overall road conditions through its DMS Driver Monitoring System and 360° HD Panoramic Camera+Under Chassis View. It also enables drivers to act quickly to prevent accidents, thanks to its Bosch’s IPB intelligent braking system that automatically kicks in within 0.1 seconds. Lastly, it also keeps drivers and passengers safe during collisions by positioning six airbags in key areas around the SUV.

“The Euro NCAP safety ratings achieved by the JAECOO J7 SHS has redefined the safety standards of the new energy vehicle era. Looking ahead, OMODA and JAECOO’s automotive innovations will be powered by the Super Hybrid System (SHS) technology. With SHS as our automotive engineering’s core driving force, embedding safety DNA is paramount throughout the entire product development process. Through continuous technological innovation, OMODA and JAECOO will advance the evolution of safety standards, creating future mobility solutions for global markets that combine ultimate safety, exceptional performance, and intelligent experiences. This will lead the new energy vehicle industry into a new era of safety at a higher dimensional level. Our team cannot wait to bring the JAECOO J7 SHS to the Philippines,” OMODA&JAECOO Philippines said in a statement.

Beyond its industry-leading safety scores, the J7 SHS is also primed to lead in the country’s hybrid SUV segment. The model boasts the smoothest turbo-charged powertrain in the market, promising seamless long-haul drives on both hybrid and pure electric modes. It achieves this by harnessing the combined power of a 201 HP motor, a 5th Generation 1.5 TDGI DHT hybrid engine, and a fast-charging 18.3 kWh lithium-ion battery. This unique powertrain allows motorists to seamlessly switch between the vehicle’s Full Electric, Series Hybrid, Parallel Hybrid, and Energy Recovery (regen) modes and travel through various terrains, including sand and mud. In fact, the model drove as far as 1,488.8 kilometers on a full fuel tank and a single charge during the AAP Verification Range Test earlier this year, exceeding its published extended range of 1,200+ km. It also drove as far as 106 km while on pure electric mode, giving drivers the option to go completely electric during long-haul drives.

The JAECOO J7 SHS made its local preview in the Philippines at the recently concluded 2025 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). The latest automotive offering has generated significant attention and enthusiasm at the event, with many customers placing early reservations. The model will also be put on display at the upcoming OMODA and JAECOO Global Conference happening in Wuhu, China, this April 23.

The first batch of J7 SHS units is expected to arrive in the Philippines by the end of May. Interested buyers may pre-order the J7 SHS at OMODA and JAECOO Philippines’ official dealerships at Pasig, Sta. Rosa, and Cebu. This will be available in the Premium and Comfort variants, which are both priced under Php 1.7 million.
