Acer, and by extension Microsoft, is hoping for its new Liquid Jade Primo to be that for productivity masters. Unveiled last year and shown off at CES 2016 (as well as a cover appearance on 2.O), the Liquid Jade Primo is being marketed to professionals looking for a lighter yet equally powerful productivity device.
It’s looking to give the Liquid Jade Primo and the Windows 10 Mobile platform a fighting chance to climb a rather steep mountain when it comes to mobile operating system market. The latest figures from IDC put Windows Phone’s market share at 2.2 percent in 2015, a rather small figure compared to Android’s 81.2 percent market share, and the industry analyst doesn’t expect growth for Microsoft’s share in the coming years. That’s why they need unique and outstanding options to at least make a dent in the market. And that’s where the Liquid Jade Primo hopes to help them out.
Helping push the Liquid Jade Primo as productivity machine is the Continuum feature of Windows 10. This allows Windows 10 universal apps to work on any Windows 10 device, allowing you to switch seamlessly from phone to desktop to tablet. It must be noted that the apps need to be universal apps for them to translate to the desktop. If you use core Microsoft programs a lot, you should be set.
Acer is packaging it with keyboard, mouse, display dock, and phone. All you need to do is connect the display dock via USB-C-enabled display or HDMI and you’re all set. If you’re a mobile professional, this could even mean connecting the Liquid Jade Primo to an available TV or monitor or even projector. If bringing the keyboard or mouse is troublesome for you, the phone itself can work as a touchpad and virtual keyboard, too.
What powers the Liquid Jade Primo? As a refresher, it has a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass with excellent viewing angles and a bright and crisp display. It runs on a hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB internal storage that you can expand up to 128GB via microSD. It has LTE Cat. 6 and 802.11ac MIMO connectivity options and a 2,870mAh fixed battery, Windows Mobile devices aren’t known to be power hogs so this should last you through a work day well. It has a 21-megapixel f/2.2 auto-focus rear camera with dual LED flash and 4K video recording capabilities as well as an 8-megapixel f/2.2 front shooter with an 84-degree wide angle lens that supports Full HD recording.
It’s a capable machine, to say the least. Perhaps the only downside to it are the materials used. Its made with lightweight plastic that doesn’t feel as premium as the device deserves. We’re not saying it should be made with metal but it does need more premium materials to highlight this flagship device. It’s slim profile and curved back make for a pleasant experience in hand, what more if these were made with higher end materials?
Those interested in getting their hands on the Liquid Jade Primo have to shell out P28,990 for the desktop kit. It’s now available at select Acer Concept Stores including the Acer Concept Store Mobility at SM North EDSA; Acer Concept Stores at SM Megamall, SM Dasmarinas, SM Southmall, SM Bacoor, SM Cebu, SM Bacolod, SM Mall of Asia, and Gmall Davao; andd Acer Mobile Kioks at SM Sta. Rosa and Glorietta.
