If you’re a social-media-savvy person, for sure you’ve come to a point where you’re frustrated with Instagram’s mobile lock where you can only upload from a mobile device. Social media managers can do so via scheduled posts in Facebook’s Creator Studio, but for the average person with only regular accounts, it’s not possible.
Well, Matt Navarra spotted a new feature where Instagram is finally letting you upload photos and videos directly from your desktop. This is done via the + sign on the upper right corner of the page, along with the Home and Direct Messages icons. No more third-party apps needed. It has all the usual options you’re used to in mobile including the filters.
Bloomberg was able to talk with Christine Pai, spokesperson for Facebook. She confirmed that they’re now testing uploads from a desktop browser because “we know that many people access Instagram from their computer.”
Better late than never I guess.
It makes a lot of sense considering their platform has become a haven for highly curated content from influencers and those aspiring to become one. Having to edit your image on the desktop and send it back to a phone for upload is a light task, but a hassle nonetheless especially in this age.
With pressure from other platforms like TikTok, Twitch, and YouTube, Instagram has to find ways to make them more enticing to both normal people and content creators.
As always, this is first being tested in US users and will slowly roll out to select countries. They will decide if it will become a mainstay if many people from the test countries will use the feature.
