I grew up in an era where video games had already boomed. By the time I was old (or young) enough to play, the Famcom and the SNes were already on their way out and the Game Boy Advance and Sony Playstation were already all the rage.
Like me, I’m sure many gamers still hold a lot of the games from yesteryears close to their hearts. There’s a reason emulators exist and have continued to thrive on cyberspace—people love coming back to their retro games every so often.
Now, if you’re that type of gamer who likes taking occasional trips down memory lane for these games, then here’s a device you should try out: the Anbernic RG35XX. It’s a handheld gaming device that contains a vast library of retro games. Simply put, it’s a dozen emulators all rolled into one complete package.
The Anbernic RG35XX features games from the O.G.’s in Atari, Famcom, and SNes. It also has some of the newer titles found on Game Boy Advance and PlayStation. From iconic classics like Pac-Man, Bomberman and The Legend of Zelda, to legendary GBA titles like Pokemon (the complete Game Boy collection) and Golden Sun, there’s an almost endless range of games.
The device itself has integrated controls for the old consoles up to PS1. It has a USB-C port for charging, a 3.5mm jack for audio devices, and a display port to connect it to bigger screens. There’s also an extra memory card slot, so you can add more games to the stock library.
The Anbernic RG35XX is available via Shopee through various sellers. DataBlitz also offers this device for PHP2,395. There are three versions available — two of which feature a GBA-like transparent casing, the third is this one with the classic Game Boy look. The shop also carries other Anbernic models for newer titles including those found on PS2, PSP, and Nintendo DS.
Some people play these games for nostalgia. Others just find them as good stress relievers from work. For some, they’re the best palate cleansers after a month-long non-stop grind with the same RPG. Me? These games remind me of a much simpler time in my life, when weekends were all about spending countless hours on a single console. Brings back a ton of good memories.
