Hyundai rolls out Venue subcompact SUV with a starting price of P915k

As if the hot-selling Kona isn’t enough, Hyundai is letting loose yet another baby SUV—the Venue. And it starts at a very palatable price of P915,000. Exuding a bold and robust aesthetic, the Venue is targeted at young, dynamic motorists who would appreciate its fun yet functional qualities.

Up front, the Venue projects a welcoming presence with its unique front that flaunts Hyundai’s bold cascading grille with a 3-dimensional pattern formed from an intricate mesh of black and chrome steel to project a premium style. This hint of elegance is applied even to the little details, like the black cladding around the fender, voluminous wheel arches, boldly sculpted side character lines, 17-inch alloy wheels with sporty and asymmetrical spoke design, and the front-wheel air curtain inlet that’s neatly integrated to the bumper. It has bi-function halogen headlights with static blending, and LED DRL and position lamps which provide visibility day and night.

At the rear, you’re greeted by the “VENUE” logo emblazoned in white with chrome outline set against a wide rear door flanked by curiously designed illumination elements of its LED taillights. By curious, I mean the Venue’s unique Z-shaped tail lamps with lenticular optical lens that give them an even more vibrant personality. Other features that further illuminate the Venue’S rear design, such as the back-up lamps incorporated at both ends of the rear bumper complement the front style brilliantly.

Inside, a T-shaped dashboard design echoes Hyundai’s bold and sporty approach in organizing the Venue’s interior space. The Venue’s infotainment system features an 8-inch touchscreen equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This touchscreen also doubles as the display for the rearview camera that helps guide you to maneuver your car with ease when parking. The Venue’s Drive mode and 2WD multi-traction control adapts to your preferred driving style, with three available settings of Sporty, Normal, or Eco-friendly, which can be intuitively selected through a single jog dial. Keep tabs on your car’s efficiency or various vehicle settings through the 3.5-inch Supervision Liquid Crystal Display (LCD), and easily manage cabin temperature with a three-dial automatic AC system.

While the Venue’s compact exterior conveys an easy-to-maneuver driving experience, the interior offers a practical yet versatile space that the everyday urban commuter would appreciate: 355 liters of cargo space, rear seats that have 60/40 split-folding capability, and a unique dual-level luggage board that can be positioned at the top or bottom to further maximize luggage loading convenience. A retractable covering shelf at the rear can also be stored at the rear seatback to give you even more space in loading bulky items. Plus, enjoy lots of storage spaces to keep your travels organized, like the front passenger seat open tray for your smart devices, console tray for other small items, cup holders and bottle holders for refreshments, and map pockets for handy paper stuff.

Powering the Venue is Hyundai’s Gamma 1.6-liter multi-point injection (MPI) gasoline engine that churns out 123ps at 6,300 rpm and 15.4 kg-m of torque at 4,850 rpm and is mated to a 6-speed automatic. Stable and comfortable driving can also be expected, thanks to its monocoque body structure, and a reliable suspension system comprised of a MacPherson strut type suspension at the front and coupled torsion beam axle at the rear. Together, these help the Venue achieve an optimal balance between a responsive and a comfortable drive.

What contributes to even greater comfort the Venue’s body itself. Like all Hyundais, the Venue is built with Hyundai’s Advanced High-Strength Steel (AHSS). Forty-six percent of this is applied to the vehicle, and in addition, ring-shaped high-stiffness structures and reinforcements to core vehicle body members have also been applied to enhance overall body rigidity for improved structural integrity to help protect the vehicle’s occupants and efficiently dissipate energy away from them in a collision.

The Venue is also equipped with up to six airbags (two at the front, plus side and curtain airbags). Hyundai made this 6-airbag system even more advanced by efficiently sensing the degree of impact and collision severity, thereby comprehensively deploying airbags. There’s also the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and ABS for emergency maneuvers on slippery conditions. And if you have a toddler in tow, you’ll feel reassured knowing that the Venue comes equipped with ISOFIX child seat anchors to keep the child seat in place.

The new Hyundai Venue is available in two variants: the 1.6-liter GL and 1.6-liter GLS, both with 6-speed automatics. They come in Denim Blue, Fiery Red, Cosmic Grey, Polar White, and Phantom Black and retail for PhP915,000 for the 1.6 GL 6AT and PhP985,000 for the 1.6 GLS 6AT.
