Hummer made its return late last year with the introduction of the Hummer EV – a full-electric supertruck. Now, they’ve returned into the form that made them a pop culture icon of the early 2000s. The Hummer EV SUV is estimated to go 0-60 in 3.5secs and has a range of around 300 miles or 483 kilometers.
Outside, the Hummer EV SUV retains the silhouette of its predecessors, but modern touches were done on every corner. In front is a full width strip of LED headlight with the name Hummer spelled out in segments. It’s complemented by thin turn signals, LED fog light, and a massive gray skid plate with a pair of tow hooks.
There are pronounced boxy fenders that highlight the 22-inch wheels with 35-inch-OD Goodyear All-Terrain Tires. Meanwhile, the rear has hourglass-ish LED taillamps, three separate lights for the third brake light, and a power swing gate that carries the massive extra tire.
Inside is a very utilitarian interior with a dash of luxury. They utilized squares and rectangles for most shapes inside, especially the dashboard. In front of the driver is a 12.3-inch digital screen, while at the center of the dash is a 13.4-inch touchscreen. Bose will take care of the audio with a 14-speaker sound system.
Above the passengers is the Infinity roof with modular Sky Panels. It’s basically see-through glass which can be stowed away on the frunk for an open-air experience.
Like its pickup brother, the Hummer EV SUV has a slew of features unique to it in its segment. Certain variants will have 4-wheel steering for better cornering, while ‘Crabwalk’ feature will allow the car to move diagonally on low speeds. There’s also ‘Extract Mode’ that allows the adaptive air suspension to lift this hulk of metal 6-inches off the ground. It also has an enhanced version of Super Cruise where it detects if lane changing and overtake can be done, and will do so, while doing safety protocols like switching on the turn signal.
Powering the Hummer EV SUV is GM’s Ultium Drive system that has three motors with 20-modules that produces up to 830 horsepower and 11,500 Nm of torque. Yes, that’s not a typo. It might be a bit less compared to its pickup brother, but it’s still a lot of power on tap.
“The GMC HUMMER EVs were envisioned to be the most capable and compelling electric supertrucks ever,” said Duncan Aldred, global vice president of Buick and GMC. “The new HUMMER EV SUV is the next chapter, which will offer many options for customers to tailor the truck to their lifestyles, while continuing to encourage them to forge new paths with zero emissions.”
Aside from a deep pocket, patience is required if you want this in your garage. The 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 – where most of the innovations come standard, will be launched early 2023, despite the 2024 moniker. It will retail for $105,595 or around P5.1m based on exchange rate at time of writing. Lower variants will be released later on which will start at $80,000 or around P3.9m.
