Huawei Watch Fit 3 review: You’ll never go out of style and shape

Huawei, being the fashion-forward tech brand that it is, has a lot in store for fashionable folks and fitness enthusiasts in the form of the Huawei Watch Fit 3 — from the large display and battery life down to its rich health monitoring features.

Amplifying its appeal is the new square-faced design. Since it evokes familiarity, I’m certain it will receive a positive reception. But there’s more to it than meets the eye. Read on to find out.

Design and build

The Watch Fit 3 embraces a new, more premium look akin to flagship wearables we already see on everyone’s wrist. Although by the looks of it, Huawei’s version might be my new bias.

It boasts an ultra-slim aluminum alloy body (9.9mm) paired with new buttery smooth straps made of skin-friendly, waterproof fluoroelastomer. Comfort levels didn’t drop even after wearing it for long hours. It felt lightweight (26g) even while engaging in sports like golf and tennis. No wonder I was able to sleep soundly even with it on my wrist.

As for color options, there are plenty to choose from to suit different tastes and styles. I’m testing out the Green colorway which leans more on the pastel side. Likewise, with the Pink colorway. They’re the fun ones of the bunch.

If you want the clean, minimalist aesthetic, you have the Black, White, and Grey (nylon) straps at your disposal. No matter what you choose, each one is versatile enough to rock with any outfit. Sporty, casual, business attire — you name it!

Display

The glow up mainly happens on the display. From the 1.74-inch display of the predecessor, what greets you now is a 1.82-inch AMOLED square-faced display with a 77.4% screen-to-body ratio. This makes all essential information much easier to view at a glance.

It was a pleasurable experience all throughout. Navigating the screen feels very intuitive and straightforward. At the same time, outdoorsy and sporty girlies like me can take advantage of the bright (1500nits peak brightness) and vivid screen.

Huawei also injects playfulness to the watch face selections. Modern City and Elegant Light were my top faves; both showcase a good mix of modern sophistication and classic touches. There’s also one way to express your current vibe with the Fun Mood watch face.

Smart features

Other convenience features that are always welcome in my book are the Bluetooth calling function, calendar reminders, and messaging capabilities, to name a few. This ensures that you don’t miss important notifications and events when you’re already bombarded with deadlines and household chores.

Compatibility

We can say goodbye to compatibility issues as the latest iteration allows itself to be enjoyed by both iOS and Android users. This is a green light to switch things up in your ecosystem if you’re looking for a premium-looking yet wallet-friendly smartwatch. Pairing up the smartwatch with my Android phone felt like a breeze.

Health features

There’s a point when we get too busy that we overlook other important aspects of our lives. I, myself, am guilty of this — self-care becomes an afterthought. I tend to deviate from my health and fitness goals so a little nudge can make a big impact.

The Watch Fit 3 was like a best friend giving me constant reminders to get moving and start burning some calories. With summer in full swing, it should help us achieve our summer body goals and maintain it all year round.

The new Stay Fit app is something fitness enthusiasts can rave about. It uses science-based methods to help you reach your ideal weight. In my experience, I wanted to lose weight at a normal pace, the app then will generate a weight loss plan with that as a basis.

I logged meals throughout the day while engaging in sports and exercise, trying to burn more than I consume for a calorie deficit. The journey ahead might feel long and tedious, but having a reliable companion will hopefully turn things around and keep me motivated. It also feels very rewarding when you start seeing

It’s worth noting that it looks out not just for weight management, but several important aspects of our health too. Are you getting quality sleep? The smartwatch will answer that for you through the HUAWEI TruSleep 4.0. It calculates your sleep score through several parameters including total sleep time and ratio of different sleep phases (deep sleep, light sleep, REM, and waking up). Otherwise you might still feel restless even after getting sleep for a couple of hours.

Battery and charging

It can be quite a chore to frequently recharge your smartwatch when you have plenty of other things on your to-do list. That’s why it’s a relief that the Huawei Watch Fit 3 can extend its life for 7 to 10 days with light use and always-on display (AOD) disabled.

Even with the AOD enabled, you get to reap full benefits of your smartwatch for four days. I’d take this over having to charge daily.

Of course, the longevity of your watch will still depend on your usage, but you can’t deny the bliss of not having to charge daily. After all, charging your device for 5 mins will already give you a full day of use. Not bad at all.

Verdict

The Huawei Watch Fit 3 is a great way to flaunt your style and stay on top of your health. It’s not a seasonal friend, it’s your everyday companion that will make sure you don’t lose track of your goals.

The best part is Huawei addressed several pain points, all while maintaining a budget-friendly price tag. Large display? Check. Long battery life. Check. Stylish form factor? Check. Multi-device compatibility? Check. The list goes on and it just keeps ticking off every single one. I mean, for PHP6,499, how can one say no?
