It was a bit of a side note at the launch of the P20 and P20 Pro but it’s something potential buyers of the new Huawei phones might want to look into, especially with the absence of the headphone jack in these two devices. Huawei calls its new pair of wireless earbuds as FreeBuds and these definitely look like something you’ve seen before: the Apple AirPods.
If you put them side by side, as The Verge did, you’ll see the similarities. But Huawei tries to one-up Apple with a couple of things. One, it promises better noise isolation with the silicone tips attached to them. Two, Huawei promises 10 hours of playback when fully charged, which is twice the capability of the AirPods. Three, it comes in black and white options.
The FreeBuds also comes with a charging case but it follows a horizontal orientation instead of the AirPods’ vertical one. The FreeBuds will retail for €159, which is around P10,200. The AirPods, for comparison, retails for P8,990. We’d have to wait and see if Huawei will carry the FreeBuds here.
