Huawei Band 10 review: Stay fit and mindful, all from your wrist

When we think of fitness bands, we expect health and fitness monitoring features, along with convenience functions. This time, HUAWEI pays attention to more than just the physical aspect, taking a more holistic approach by incorporating emotional well-being into its suite of health monitoring features.

This was first introduced in the HUAWEI Watch GT 5 Series, and is now making its way to entry-level wearables. Let’s see what the latest HUAWEI Band 10 has to offer.

Design and build

The new iteration features an upgraded aluminum alloy case, giving it a more premium feel. It’s available in seven diverse yet youthful color selections to suit different personalities: green, blue, purple, matte black, and white. For more budget-friendly options, HUAWEI has retained two colors with a durable plastic case including pink and black.

The green colorway stands out with its titanium gray midframe, contrast color button, and open-hole strap design. For those who prefer a more subtle yet playful fitness band, the blue and purple options are great choices. But if you gravitate toward understated designs, the black and white variants offer a clean, minimalist aesthetic.

I’m reviewing the purple colorway and it’s just my cup of tea. Beyond its stylish appeal, the ergonomic side of things is equally important. And I’m happy to report that the Band 10 delivers. It starts with the fluoroelastomer strap, which feels smooth against the skin.

It has a slim build measuring 8.9mm, which amplifies the comfort factor. Weighing only 15g, it feels lightweight that I sometimes forget I’ve been wearing the watch for a couple of days without taking it off. Even while sleeping, the Band 10 remains unintrusive. It’s safe to say that in almost any sport, it will maintain that weightless feel.

Display

The Band 10 boasts a 1.47-inch AMOLED display with 192×490 resolution, delivering vibrant colors and sufficient brightness even outdoors. While the screen interaction could be smoother, it’s more than acceptable given its price range.

If you like switching up your watch face frequently, you’ll be glad that the Band 10 has more than 10,000 options. You can also personalize the widgets so you can easily see and access important information.

Health and fitness features

As expected, you have a wealth of health monitoring features at your disposal, including heart rate monitoring, pulse wave arrhythmia analysis, SpO2 detection, and menstrual cycle management.

Multisport individuals have 100 sports modes to keep them engaged and active. You also don’t have to sweat it since the Band 10 is water and sweat-resistant with a 5ATM water resistance rating.

What’s more interesting though is AI’s cameo in this latest iteration. This shows up in swimming for accurate stroke identification and indoor running for enhanced data accuracy. For running enthusiasts, it’s worth noting the Band 10’s Strava compatibility.

As much as I love sports, nothing beats curling up in bed and getting a proper good night’s rest. That’s if you want to wake up feeling refreshed—not drowsy or groggy.  I know it’s easier said than done, so this is where the sleep tracking and analysis of the Band 10 comes in. This time, it also makes use of heart rate variability as an indicator.

It’s crucial to know your sleep score—whether you’re getting enough deep sleep, as this affects sleep quality, if you’re sleeping on time, and more. I appreciate how detailed the sleep insights for the week were. It also provides you with daily analysis and recommendations to help you achieve quality sleep.

Additionally, it also features Sleep Apnea Risk Screening for early detection of sleep breathing problems.

Emotional well-being assistant

Aside from watching out for your physical health, this wearable also monitors your emotional well-being and stress data. For a fun and playful touch, you can choose the Pet Panda as your watch face to mirror your current mood: pleasant, neutral, or unpleasant.

It’s a good way to keep things light-hearted while staying on top of your emotional state. When you’re feeling overwhelmed or stressed, you’ll know when to pause and take a breather. And when you’re in a good mood, you’ll understand what led you there and reinforce that behavior. Awareness is key.

Smart features and connectivity

One of the highly anticipated features of the Band 10 is its cashless payment option through GCash. With this mode of payment becoming increasingly popular and widely accepted both locally and abroad, I was thrilled to know it’s rolling out in budget-friendly wearables.

Other nifty features include a remote shutter, music control, find phone, and flashlight, among others.

It’s also great that the comprehensive health and wellness features are accessible across different ecosystems, as it’s compatible with both Android and iOS.

Battery life

According to HUAWEI, the Band 10 offers a battery life of up to two weeks with regular use. That’s a welcome change, especially since I’m used to charging on a daily basis with a certain fruit-branded device. And when you run low on juice, you can fully charge the device in just 45 minutes. I’ll take a charging time under an hour any day.

Verdict

I’ve always admired how HUAWEI seamlessly blends style and function in its devices without cutting corners. The brand’s attention to detail is evident across all segments. A case in point is the HUAWEI Band 10, which aims to enhance users’ physical and emotional well-being right from their wrists. Its lightweight design and convenient features make it even more appealing.

The best part? You can monitor your health holistically and comfortably without breaking the bank at just PHP 2,399 for the aluminum alloy case variant and PHP 2,199 for the polymer materials case. Plus, HUAWEI’s ongoing promo, which started on March 2, lets you snag the aluminum alloy case for only PHP 2,199 and the polymer materials case for just PHP 1,899.
