Huawei has had the goal to make their wide array of impressive products more accessible to Filipinos. This has definitely been quite evident not just from the diversity of products — from smartphones, laptops, smart TVs, wireless earphones, even a smart weighing scale and to many more — but from the quality that they provide.
The most recent addition to Huawei’s stellar lineup is their latest smart band, the Huawei Band 6, which, I believe, contains features that most other brands can’t match, especially within its price range. With the Band 6, Huawei equips its users to be able to essentially experience the smart life anytime, anywhere, with just a device around your wrist.
When I first got my hands on the Band 6, it was its sleek, rectangular face that caught my eye. The 1.47-inch Full-View AMOLED Display with slim bezels, which consequently allows for an immersive user experience.
The smartwatch comes in four monochromatic straps, Graphite Black, Amber Sunrise, Sakura Pink and Forest Green, all comforting colors which is something reflected in the feeling it gives you when worn. With multiple punch holes on the strap, the watch can easily adjust for a comfortable fit. The strap is light, flexible and has great texture, while the watch face sits sleekly and comfortably on the wrist. Additionally, integrated in the Band 6 are more than 100 stylish watch face backgrounds that add a whole lot more flavor.
What’s most impressive with the Band 6, however, is that paired with its aesthetically pleasing looks is an excellently versatile performance. As a smartwatch, it more than fulfills both its active and lifestyle duties. For me, it’s the former in which I was truly able to experience its capabilities.
Before the pandemic, I would say I was quite active physically; I’d play organized basketball roughly every other day, which pretty much made up around 99% of my total exercise. With the pandemic, unfortunately, activities of this ilk have been put at a halt and I have hence been less active and more idle in terms of physical activity, which is a sentiment I’m sure a number of others share.
In response to the inactivity, I’ve since set up a backyard hoop and have been more inclined to make use of the home gym equipment. Despite this, I’d say that my fitness and even the desire to exercise were not at the same levels as it previously were.
Then comes the Huawei Band 6.
The smartwatch can make such an impact when working out as if it were your favorite teammate plus the best coach, all in one. With 96 different workout modes– from running, yoga, swimming, rowing machine, hockey, dancing, and even to a game of tug-of-war –there is no doubt a mode to perfectly suit you. In fact, the smartwatch has an automatic workout detection that recognizes six workout modes, namely walking or running indoors or outdoors, using the elliptical machine or using the rowing machine.
How I would say the Band 6 helped me specifically in terms of fitness is that it allowed me to exercise more smartly (no pun intended) which allowed for better performance and, ultimately, better results. Previously when I would work out, I would merely do so without too much thought into what I was doing exactly. With the Band 6’s multitude of features, I was equipped with the necessary tools to better understand my performance.
When shooting around in my backyard doing basketball drills, I was able to assess data collected by the Band 6’s heart rate monitor to see the intensity of certain exercises. Its heart rate zone monitors me in real time, and can even notify me when my heart rate is excessively high. Pairing this with another feature that facilitates workout duration makes a world of difference to exercise more proficiently. On a side note, the Band 6 doesn’t feel uncomfortable when active and sweaty, nor does it obstruct any of my movements, whatsoever.
As previously mentioned, the lockdown led to physical inactivity, which then led me to gaining a little over 10 pounds. Before having the Band 6, it was honestly a struggle for me to lose around half of what I initially gained. With the help of the smartwatch, however, not only was I able to lose the other half in a shorter amount of time, but to do it efficiently, healthily and with a lot more fun and purpose.
The Band 6 is able to accurately detect how much calories are burned per workout session, remind me when it’s my designated time to exercise, and even remind me when to simply get up and moving when I’ve been idle for an extended period of time, which I usually experience when on long drives or when being a couch potato. This feature may seem simple and maybe overlooked by some, but it really helps in waking the body up for a more active mind, which I see as most useful during those stressful work days when I need both the physical and mental strength to not just merely get through the day, but to do it in the best possible way.
The plethora of workout modes that include vivid animations for multi-scenario exercises was of great assistance to me, specifically during strength training. As mentioned earlier, I would initially work out just for the sake of doing so; frankly, those exercises were just whatever I’d find on Google and/or YouTube. With the assistance of the Band 6’s animations, I was able to fine- tune those exact same exercises in terms of movement, form and intensity, as well as delve into different types of workouts, which then led my exercise to be significantly more fruitful.
It’s one thing to merely exercise, but it’s a whole other thing to fully understand what it is exactly you’re doing and the effects it has on you and your body. With Huawei’s TruSport professional algorithm, the Band 6 is able to analyze exercise capabilities based on multi-dimentional parameters, then offer assessment and suggestion for better overall performance. Some of which are maximum oxygen intake, recovery time and training effects to help workout more scientifically and efficiently.
Tying all of these elements together is the Huawei Health App that facilitates the maximization of all of these health benefits with a wide range of purposes and features. With TruSeen 4.0 for accurate heart rate monitoring, TruSleep for noting sleep quality, as well as the ability to monitor blood oxygen saturation (SPO2) and stress levels, its features are seemingly endless. The Huawei Health App is the go-to for data analyses provided post-exercise. The best part? It already collates the data and presents them in dynamic, easy-to-understand graphs.
What allows the smartwatch to be even more convenient and practical is its syncability with fellow Huawei wearables, as well as its compatibility with all platforms, from iOS and other Android devices. If you think this smartwatch that’s jam-packed with features would typically consume an alarming rate of battery, well, think again. The Band 6, on average, can last up to an astonishing two weeks on a full charge!
t amazes me how the integration of the Band 6 into my physical activity has done wonders for my overall health and fitness, as this has consequently had great influence on other aspects of my life, such as mental health, mood and overall well-being.
This is exactly why I see the Band 6 as your favorite teammate and the best coach put together; it assists in achieving goals with high quality. It helps you. It pushes you. It guides you. It motivates you. Most especially in a time when we’re unable to physically see whom we consider our teammates and coaches in life, the Huawei Band 6 can be of help in fulfilling those roles for you. At a mind-bogglingly reasonable P2,599 price tag, this Smartwatch epitomizes “game- changer.” So, now, more than ever, elevate your health and fitness in the new normal with the Huawei Band 6.
