With HONOR’s X Series, both the X8 and X7 have already made lasting impressions in their segments. With the recent inclusion of the X6a this September 26th, the X Series line up is bolstered and has been made even more formidable due to its budget-friendly pricing, all while retaining competitive specs.
Through its headlining and powerful 50MP Main Camera– a noteworthy feature given its price range –the X6a further sets itself apart from its competitors by capturing moments in vivid detail, whether up close or with distance, and whether day or night.
Moreover, its eye-catching design, vivid display and serviceable processor round out the X6a experience to give you a device with overall capabilities.
Camera:
The X6a’s cameras consist of a 50MP (f/1.8) Main Camera, a 2MP (f/2.4) Depth Camera and a 2MP (f/2.4) Macro Camera at its rear, with a 5MP (f/2.2) Front Camera at its front.
As someone who is an avid photographer of random moments of everyday life, I greatly appreciated how the X6a’s camera was able to capture vivid photos in a plethora of scenarios. Whether snapping a picture of my meal, catching pictures of scenery, taking candid photos of my friends, among others, the X6a remained versatile in capturing detailed photos.
During photos taken at night or when there is minimal lighting, the X6a was able to create a good contrast between the subject and the background, ultimately bringing more out of the point of focus, while still remaining relatively clear given the dimness.
This type of clarity is a constant, regardless if you’re shooting with low lighting or not. Good detail is present when taking pictures up close, such as of food, other smaller objects or someone’s portrait. Despite these, I still found there to be instances where its coloring might not be up to par (albeit minimally), though most noticeably in dark settings.
Additionally, the X6a provides vibrant and colorful photos, especially with ample lighting, which I enjoyed most when on the fairway. Even when utilizing the 2x zoom, the X6a’s camera was still able to display relative definition and sharpness.
Lastly, HONOR has equipped the X6a with a punch-hole type selfie camera. Though not as much of a standout as the aforementioned front cameras, it still does an adequate job of retaining quality, nevertheless.
Design:
Not only is the X6a’s camera what gives it its dazzle, but also its design, and quite literally too; inspired by the starlit sky, the device’s rear resembles dazzling gemstones that twinkle in the night sky.
Coming in renditions of Sky Silver and Midnight Black, the X6a’s glossy appearance makes the smartphone all the more eye-catching and captivating. Its lively characteristics and colorful personalities ultimately serve as a reflection of the type of consumer who would not only be enticed by the product, but greatly enjoy it, as well.
With dimensions of 163mm x 75mm x 8.35mm, the device is on the larger end of the scale. Taking its imposing size into consideration, the X6a remains rather light, as it weighs only 188g.
At its rear, which gives off a very gracious style, are the 3 cameras and its flash located on the upper left hand side. The “HONOR” branding, which gives off a sleek reflection in certain lighting and angles, is vertically aligned on the lower left hand side that gives the X6a personality.
Display:
Naturally, what comes with having a large device is likewise having a large screen, which is exactly the case with the X6a (though its bezels are fairly noticeable).
What puts more significance to it, though, is that its 6.95-inch LFT LCD Display is paired with a 90Hz refresh rate for a smoother and more seamless user experience, as well as a 720 x 1612 resolution for reliable visualization.
Further putting importance on the overall display, HONOR keeps in mind lengthy and prolonged usages of the device (or any device, for that matter) and its possible negative effects, especially in today’s digital age. With the inclusion of Dynamic Dimming Technology, the device stimulates the dynamic changes in natural light, ultimately relieving eye fatigue, as well as promoting eye blood circulation. Both Eye Comfort and Dark Mode are also at your disposal for added comfort and protection.
I found this technology to not just be useful and convenient, but quite responsive too. It quickly recognizes the change in setting/lighting and adjusts accordingly, such as, for example, when entering the movie theater from the mall.
Processor:
In terms of its processor, the X6a is powered by a 12nm MediaTek Helio G36 chipset.
Although its chipset might not be on the eye-popping side, this has the capabilities to be an able partner when it comes to various different activities, nonetheless.
My usage of the X6a mainly consisted of multitasking between messages, emails and documents, streaming videos on Netflix, snapping different photos and videos, constantly listening to music on Spotify, and other miscellaneous tasks.
To say that its processor was more than capable of fulfilling its role with responsiveness and dependability would be an understatement, given my moderate usage rate during the 2 week span. However, even when placing it under harder labor, you can expect the X6a to provide enough power and competence to accomplish such tasks enjoyably.
Its 4GB RAM + 128GB ROM gives a lot more flexibility when it comes to storage; with the capabilities to store 28,000 photos, 11,000 songs, or 100 movies, storing and memory would be more worry-free and less of a hassle, giving you more liberty when it comes to your overall storage.
As someone who both stores and captures many photos and videos, downloads many Spotify playlists to listen to offline, as well as saves and transfers many files and documents, having such large storage is a facet I put a lot of value into.
Battery:
Another aspect that should make the X6a all the more impressive is its very large battery, with a total capacity of 5200mAh. This is equivalent to a total of 17.8 hours of video playback, or 35 hours of audio calls. Paired with the respectable battery is a relatively quick 22.5W HONOR SuperCharge, which can impressively charge 31% in only a 20 minute period.
In my own charging lab, I was able to recharge the X6a from 0% to 30% in, indeed, 20 minutes only. Further, it took 40 minutes to charge to 50%, 1 hour for 75%, and an hour and a half for a full charge.
Evidently, HONOR’s SuperCharge rapidly restores the X6a’s battery, consequently allowing the user to enjoy more and for lengthier periods, without the bother of low power levels or sticking by the charging station for an extended time.
What one would appreciate even more is that the rate in which its battery drains is still moderate even with heavy usage. Going through an entire day scrolling through social media, replying to emails, navigating through Waze, constantly streaming music on Spotify, and ending the night watching YouTube videos, just to name a few, one would think a regular phone would lack or just about have enough power to sustain such activities. However, the beauty of the X6a’s large battery capacity is that it could withstand an ample amount of usage without suffering too much loss in power.
Verdict:
Boasting a 50MP Main Camera, 5200mAh battery capacity, detailed display and large storage, HONOR has decked out the X6a with reputable features. Astonishingly priced at only P6,990, HONOR is sure to make splashes in the entry-level segment with the introduction of the X6a.
The HONOR X6a is now available at any HONOR Experience and Partner Stores or online via Lazada, Shopee, and TikTok Shop.
